We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Service Finance Team, which provides professional financial support and advice to services, senior officers and elected Members. Your role will include working with services to prepare budgets, to close down accounts at year-end and to monitor performance against budgets throughout the year, as well as producing reconciliations and ad hoc financial information.

About you:

You will have practical knowledge of financial work and ideally will be Association of Accounting Technicians qualified or will have passed at least one stage of a CCAB qualification or have a relevant degree. You will be highly numerate with good analytical and communication skills and will have a good eye for detail. You will also work well as part of a team, be able to use Microsoft Office applications and demonstrate an interest in public sector finance.

Main duties:

  • Preparation, coordination and collation of relevant information in order to complete tasks related to revenue and capital budget setting and monitoring, final accounts, Treasury Management, managing the Collection Fund, Housing Finance, VAT and income management.
  • Ensuring all output is prepared in accordance with agreed standards and in line with appropriate financial regulations and statutory requirements/deadlines.
  • Where appropriate preparation of statistical or other Government returns.
  • Other related tasks, such as vetting of contractor’s financial appraisals, and liaising with internal and external partners, commensurate with the work area.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the updated performance management framework.
  • Using established customer service standards, liaising with other Council officers as appropriate in presenting relevant information including support of other council areas in determining the financial implications of service delivery.
  • Ensuring Council service areas comply with relevant legislation/guidelines in financial management and processes.
  • Attendance at meetings to discuss financial matters with other Council officers as appropriate.
  • Supporting the Finance Manager in representing the Council with External stakeholders.
  • Under the direction of the Finance Manager, implementing transformational changes to the Council’s overall financial processes and procedures with the specific objective of reducing cost, time, and duplication.
  • Under the direction of the Finance Manager, working with services in the rollout of the refined processes and their periodic review to ensure customer needs are being met.
