Job Title: Apprentice in Adult Social Care (Learning Disabilities)

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk (On-site)

Salary: Residential Apprentices are paid at a rate of £4.81 per hour with full board and lodging provided.

Non-Residential Apprentices are paid at a rate of £7 per hour.

L’Arche Ipswich provides outstanding care and support to people living in a ‘shared lives’ setting, across 3 houses in Ipswich, Suffolk.

It is a community of 35+ people with and without learning disabilities, where people with learning disabilities can live independent, yet connected lives. The majority of assistants supporting these individuals live in the same community house. The Ipswich community is part of L’Arche UK which consists of 11 communities across England, Scotland and Wales. Each Community celebrates people with learning disability and fosters circles of support around them, focusing on building relationships and creating a culture of belonging.

The role:

As a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprentice, you will gain the skills, experience and confidence required to lead frontline care for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities within a shared lives community setting. To build your professional resilience you will also receive Mental Health First Aid at Work and Health & Safety training.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Apprentice will focus on the duties and responsibilities of their role as a Care Assistant, the importance of values, behaviours, communication, teamwork, personal and professional development, safeguarding, person centred care health & wellbeing and being an active member of the community. No day is the same; but the ultimate daily goal is to support adults with learning disabilities to live the lives they wish to live.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship programme takes a blended learning approach, including face-to-face sessions or webinars, online learning modules, work-based learning and regular review meetings. Work-based learning is over a shift based 30 hour working pattern and 7.5 hours per week of independent study. The apprenticeship provider is St. John’s Ambulance and all Apprentices will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, awarded by Future Quals. The End Point Assessment is completed after training to evidence knowledge and skills competencies.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is achieved, a higher level of study or leadership and management training will be options for career progression.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 5 and above) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Health & Social Care (Grade 5 and above) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5 and above) essential
