Job Title: Assistant Groundskeeper

Job Type: Typical hours: 07:30 – 16:00 Mon – Fri (winter), 07:30 – 16:30 Mon – Fri (summer), some flexibility occasionally required.
Garrowby Estate is a traditional agricultural estate extending to 13,250 acres, located 13 miles east of York.
The Estate:
- Two principal houses
- 40 let farms
- 750 acre in-hand farm
- Stud farm
- 1140 acres of forestry
- 140 let houses and cottages
- Various commercial properties including a village pub
We require a cheerful and motivated person to join our groundskeeping team. The right candidate will be versatile and have the ability to work alone or as part of a team to look after the Hall, garden and grounds with the support of our Estate teams.
This live-in role is varied and involves grounds maintenance (including some parkland and ponds), gardening, property/vehicle maintenance and driving duties. Candidates should be comfortable living in the countryside and enjoy outdoor work.

The Candidate:
- A positive and friendly attitude.
- Experience of groundskeeping and using garden machinery such as ride on mowers, strimmers and hedgecutters is desirable (but not essential as training will be provided).
- Flexible approach to work, moving on and off jobs as circumstances require.
- Confident driver with a full, clean driving licence. Ability to tow trailers advantageous but not essential as training will be provided.
- Be animal friendly
Details:
- Live-in essential. A private two-bedroom flat within the grounds is provided with separate allotment and garage space.
- Weekly duty rota on 1 in 3 basis, including weekends. This is providing 24-hour on-site cover for one-off tasks and emergencies, in addition to around 1 hour per day of regular caretaking tasks such as pet care, emptying bins and laying fires.
- Salary to be discussed at interview.
- 29 days holiday per year (including bank holidays).
