Job Title: Building Services Manager

Location: Chichester

Salary: £45,859 – £50,775 ‘Market Supplement of £3,000 pa, plus one-off Recruitment Payment of £5,000 and the Relocation Package’

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Buildings Services Team is responsible for the maintenance of the Councils property portfolio which includes approximately eighty properties and structures. The buildings include a variety of building types from commercial and industrial to scheduled monuments and listed buildings and structures. The work of the team includes administering maintenance and service contracts, maintaining the safety and security of buildings, delivering the corporate maintenance programme and delivering part of the capital building, mechanical and electrical and civil engineering works programmes.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to lead our in-house building services team, in a role that is interesting, varied and challenging. This role is a great opportunity for someone keen to be a key part of a team delivering a key service.

Key responsibilities;

  • The BSM will be expected to coordinate and manage the delivery of the Council’s repair, maintenance and asset replacement programmes and lead on a full range of building survey work including condition, mechanical and electrical, fire safety and energy use and efficiencies.
  • The role will also require the BSM to provide professional advice on buildings matters across the Council.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have a minimum of five years of managerial or supervisory experience is required, together with the ability to engage, lead and develop colleagues.
  • Are a chartered building surveyor with demonstrable post qualification experience.
  • Have a proven track record in procurement, managing projects to successful outcomes on time and within budget
  • Have detailed knowledge of relevant statutory and regulatory requirements is essential, as is a sound understanding of contract procurement and management.
  • Are a flexible team player, used to working closely with colleagues across a range of service areas.
  • Are driven, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Have knowledge of central and local government policy is desirable, as is prior involvement in undertaking the role of Supervisor/Counsellor for APC candidates.

This is a permanent, full-time post and you will need to have the full UK driving licence and use of a vehicle for work purposes. A Relocation Package is available plus membership of the defined benefits Local Government Pension Scheme.
