Job Title: Butcher / Slaughterman

Location: Preston

Salary: £9.55 per hour for basic contractual hours plus £11.93 paid for overtime hours

We are excited to be working with a dynamic and rapidly growing family-owned business in Preston to recruit experienced Halal Butcher/ Slaughterman, preferably with a strong background in FMCG food manufacturing, specifically poultry/ meat processing. This role has been created as a result of continued growth and further expansion plans for the future. Gafoor is a key player in their sector operating on a national basis, supplying poultry products to leading blue chip manufacturers.

About the role:

You will work as part of a team at our site in Preston, Lancashire processing poultry using the Halal method. As a Butcher/ Slaughterman you will be responsible for the poultry slaughtering process lifecycle whilst being highly focused on your safety, quality, productivity and efficiency. It is absolutely essential to be Health and Safety conscious and ensure adherence to strict food and hygiene regulations.

Key Duties:

  • Working on the slaughter line with the safe and correct use of knives and other equipment
  • Performing skilled tasks which include slaughter and evisceration of chickens
  • Removal of bone fragments, gristle, surplus fat from finished cuts
  • Using equipment or machinery when required
  • Ensure a safe working environment by ensuring that all standards of the Health and Safety are personally adhered to
  • Be familiar with the daily production plan and work as part of the team to set up the line, complete checks and ensure materials are ready to use
  • Completing tasks as efficiently as possible in order to reduce waste and downtime and maximise yields and profits
  • Actively participate in all required company training
  • Adhere to all GMP standards and maintain hygiene standards throughout the working areas

About you:

The successful candidate will require a flexible approach to their working hours in order to help the department meet customer demand.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the production team to ensure the highest quality standards are maintained. This role is open to sponsorship from candidates outside of the UK. It is an essential requirement of all oversee applicants that they have passed and have evidence of a B1 IELTS certificate to demonstrate your English language skills.

Qualifications / Skills/ Experience

  • Good general secondary education (GCSE equivalent)
  • Min 3 years butchery / slaughter experience
  • Excellent knife skills
  • Previous experience working in a high-volume meat processing factory / environment
  • Flexibility to meet daily production targets
  • Consistent approach and strong work ethic
  • A can-do attitude
  • Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Food hygiene training
