Location: Salisbury

Salary: £33,189.25 to £40,067.55

Job Type: This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30. Flexibility in this role is critical to the success of supporting the team.

The role:

The job holder is responsible for the production of development and manufacturing drawings, ensuring all technical information is accurately recorded. The job holder shall undertake a wide variety of draughting duties, updating existing drawings and files in support of new and existing design projects. The job holder is expected to complete their assigned tasks/responsibilities normally within the specified working hours.

The role requires the job holder to work accurately, producing engineering drawings to BS8888 standard, within a planned timescale in order to meet specific deadlines. The job holder will be expected to work on a wide variety of equipment as directed. The role requires that the jobholder can work accurately and follow instructions with limited guidance and supervision. Attention to detail and a systematic approach to design file and drawing control are essential.

The responsibilities of the Design Draughtsperson role include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment and tooling, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment
  • Modifying and revising existing designs and drawings, to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
  • Position instructions and comments onto drawings
  • Demonstrate good drawing and document control ensuring good and accurate engineering information is created
  • Producing accurate manufacturing drawings maintaining a high standard of quality and minimising waste
  • Assist with hands-on work during assembly and testing of prototype or new designs
  • Preparing parts lists and material schedules
  • Allocating drawing reference numbers for components, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.
  • Obtaining dimensional and other features or specified proprietary items to incorporate in design
  • Making calculations in specifying dimensional features
  • Provide cover and support to the department as and when needed

Design Draughtsperson Specifications:

  • HNC in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Proficient in using 2D or 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor
  • Understanding of the application of practical linear and geometric tolerances, limits and fits, etc. to control the form fit and function of the equipment
  • Minimum of 1 years drawing experience gained in a manufacturing environment or relevant industrial placements during academic courses
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Excellent communication, both written and oral.
  • Willing to travel and able to spend time away from home
