Job Title: Care Assistant

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk (On-site)

Salary: £9.50 – £10 per hour

Job type: 40 hours per week, flexible shift patterns, including evenings and weekends.

L’Arche Ipswich provides outstanding care and support to people living in a ‘shared lives’ setting, across 3 houses in Ipswich, Suffolk.

It is a community of 35+ people with and without learning disabilities, where people with learning disabilities can live independent, yet connected lives. The majority of assistants supporting these individuals live in the same community house. The Ipswich community is part of L’Arche UK which consists of 11 communities across England, Scotland and Wales. Each Community celebrates people with learning disability and fosters circles of support around them, focusing on building relationships and creating a culture of belonging.

The role:

We are looking for enthusiastic, positive and exceptionally caring people with previous care worker experience, and relevant care qualifications, to join our dedication team of assistants.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Supporting adults with learning disabilities in all aspects of their everyday lives.
  • Delivering practical, physical and emotional support to people with learning disabilities, whilst proactively promoting choice, independence and self-determination.
  • Participating in creating community as a place of mutual belonging.
  • Maximising independence for people with a learning disability through the provision of appropriate person-centred support.
  • Helping people with learning disabilities to develop new skills whilst being aware of the balance between risk and choice.
  • Supporting people to access leisure, social, practical and spiritual resources, education, volunteering and employment opportunities.
  • Assisting with the cleaning of communal areas, shopping, cooking, welcoming of guests/visitors, laundry, maintenance and other household tasks.
  • Supporting people to build and maintain family relationships and friendships.
  • Supporting people to manage their personal budget, benefits and correspondence.

The Candidate:

  • It is essential you hold a Care Certificate/Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification and have a minimum of 2 years’ work experience with adults with learning disabilities.
