Job Title: Coach Driver / Day Centre Assistant

Location: Ruskin Lodge, St. Helens, Merseyside

Salary: £10,288 – £11,431 per annum – Grade 4

Job type: Part time – 18.75 hrs per week, Permanent

Working hours: 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, Thurs/Fri and then Wed/Thurs/Fri alternate weeks

Are you a mini bus driver/day centre assistant wanting to work in a friendly supportive atmosphere where your driving and interpersonal skills will play an important and vital role in a beneficiary’s experience whilst visiting or staying in our modern respite care home?

About the role:

Your day will never be dull. One minute you will be conveying beneficiaries to and from the Home either for their stay or to attend the Day Centre or occasionally transporting guests from around the UK. The next minute you will be assisting in the Day Centre providing a varied programme of activities for the guests, encouraging participation in activities with the aim of meeting their mental, physical and social needs. Other days you will be organising Day Trips out for beneficiaries to a wide range of venues and activities.

In this interesting and varied role you will be able to demonstrate your excellent interpersonal skills, your understanding of older people’s needs as well as put to good use your administration and basic computer skills especially your knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

This role is part of a job share arrangement. You will work as part of a team but will also work unsupervised at times. Flexibility is required to work outside normal working hours occasionally as well as being able to deal with emergency situations that may arise.

Key Duties:

  • Transporting beneficiaries, some of whom may be immobile, to Ruskin Lodge for their stay or to a range of events including the day centre at Ruskin Lodge and on day trips.
  • Assist in the day centre with the aim of meeting the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the guests.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is kept in a clean condition both inside and outside.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is well maintained by carrying out basic maintenance/safety checks e.g. petrol, oil, tyres, water, lights, etc and reporting any faults/defects immediately.
  • Administration of outings ensuring there is a chaperone available to assist in the supervision and care of guests.
  • Ensure safety of guests at all times particularly in relation to clamping-in of wheelchairs when being transported on coach or when wheelchairs are on tail lift ensuring that they are made secure and all safety standards and procedures are adhered to.
  • To report back to line manager any concerns regarding changes/deterioration in conditions and circumstances surrounding the well-being of guests.
  • To assist Day Centre Organiser with co-ordinating tasks/activities of volunteer workers.
  • In the absence of the Day Centre Organiser, to co-ordinate all aspects involved in the Day Centre provision.

About you:

A full clean driving licence, Category D1 is essential and applicants should be aged 25+ (insurance requirements). Must have experience of driving long wheel based minibuses. A DVSA driving assessment for Coach drivers will need to be undertaken.
