Job Title: Communications & Marketing Officer

Location: Ealing, London (W5 2QB)

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Job type: Permanent, Full time

The Institute wishes to appoint a Communications & Marketing Officer who will be responsible for promoting them through social media and other digital marketing communications, as well as having full responsibility for the website. You’ll also ensure they are fully SEO optimised and help colleagues to be confident using some of the software themselves. The post holder will also be in charge of programming using HTML, CSS, WordPress, content management systems and managing the Institute VLE systems (Moodle).

You’ll provide efficient and effective support to the Executive team by monitoring web content and building web pages to enhance staff and student experience.

You must have solid IT/Marketing/Comms skills and experience of using complex databases such as CRM, Moodle, WordPress in an academic context, as well as good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage and lead the Institute’s website and create new pages when required and lead the digital strategy through website, social media, listings and online campaigns
  • To update and train both academic and administrative staff on how to use the Institute’s VLE system (Moodle), E-Learning and to be the go-to person if there is an issue
  • To be creative, with excellent writing, editing and proof-reading/copy writing skills with the ability to produce well formatted comms
  • To work alongside the marketing group to enable the Institute to become an online showcase with up to date content, events, news, articles and engaging audio and visual multimedia
  • To attend meetings as required to provide updates on the Marketing and Communications Strategy
  • To be able to implement and customise themes for the content management system and follow brand guidelines defined by the marketing group
  • To develop and implement intuitive navigation to allow access to all online information through the use of dynamic carousels, content hyperlinks and menus
  • The development and maintenance of the staff intranet platform
  • Support in the development of an engaging online user experience, informed by user data and research
  • To ensure that mainstream desktop, tablet/iPad and mobile devices, browsers and operating systems are able to access the site equally well with a high-quality browsing experience for searching information and purchasing
  • To monitor and assess campaigns, reporting on cost and effectiveness and establishing benchmarks for future marketing action
  • To engage with learner’s user groups to gain feedback on the website to ensure that the web service fully meet learner needs
  • Working with academic faculties to develop their specific conversion plans including integrated HTML, social, advertising and direct marketing campaigns (and other channels as required); and thereby supporting delivery of departmental marketing plans
  • Monitor social media activity for Institute mentions and customer service/reputational issues

The Candidate:

  • Educated to degree level in business, marketing, IT or a related discipline.
  • Three years of communications & marketing experience, preferably in a HE environment
  • Strong background in digital marketing across email, web, social media
  • Experience of publishing corporate content on social media
  • Experience of managing and developing a company’s Social Media presence using social media platforms
  • In-depth understanding of content management systems as well as good knowledge of HTML/WordPress and web scripting language such as PHP
  • Familiarity with Moodle as a virtual learning environment used by educational organisations
  • Familiarity of content marketing campaigns, email campaigns and conversion activity
  • Self-directed and able to prioritise and work effectively under own initiative
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, both written and oral and Excellent written grammar and proofreading skills
  • A solid understanding of SEO and depth knowledge of Google Analytics
  • Programmer skills, cross browser compatibility and web developer skills
  • Excellent and proven customer care skills and the ability to work effectively in different environments with varied stakeholders
  • An appreciation of digital measurement tools and their importance
