Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: Lincoln

Salary: £23,172 – £25,617 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

We’re looking for a talented individual to help support us in delivering a quality communications service both internally and externally in the beautiful and unique city of Lincoln.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work under the general direction of the Communications Manager to contribute to the provision of a quality communications, public relations, press office and information unit function.
  • To have the day-to-day responsibility for all internal communications.
  • Provide a comprehensive creative design service using Adobe software.
  • To work as a member of a central team with a sense of collective responsibility and purpose and to provide support and advice to colleagues;
  • To advise the Communications Manager about possible future service needs to ensure all resources are adequately planned for and managed;
  • To ensure any financial resources or assets are used effectively;
  • To continuously develop own skills and knowledge in accordance with the council’s development framework and any professional requirements
  • To support the delivery of the council’s priorities and to promote its core values;
  • To recommend and contribute to the implementation of any necessary changes in service delivery, operating flexibly to meet such changes
  • To develop and sustain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders and contacts
  • To contribute to the achievement of the council’s performance management framework, especially team plans and personal objectives;
  • To be aware of and comply with health and safety requirements
  • To comply with corporate policies and procedures, as appropriate (eg financial regulations, personnel policies etc);
  • To contribute to effective internal and external communications
  • To promote and practise a high standard of customer care;
  • To liaise with others across the organisation to meet customer needs and demands;
  • To support the implementation of the authority’s ‘Access to Services’ vision, as appropriate

About you:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members, officers and the media
  • Experience of using social media in a work environment
  • Experience of handling sensitive media enquiries from first contact to a final solution
  • Experience of writing and editing copy for internal and external audiences
  • Considerable experience of creating digital assets for a range of media platforms
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate with staff, the media and external customers and present a professional image
  • Ability to perform to deadline, often under pressure
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office and Team
  • Organisational skills fitting the needs of a small but busy team
  • Flexibility to provide for occasional evening or weekend work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • A qualification and/or experience in a relevant subject such as journalism, marketing or public relations
  • Ability to work in a non-discriminatory manner, in accordance with the council’s Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Policy
