The role:

Working locally under a Senior Quantity Surveyor (Regional) as part of the Commercial Team overseen by the Commercial Lead you will provide commercial support for an allocated area of an embedded alliance contract. You will be accountable to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the commercial management of the allocated programme area
  • Assisting with the provision of transparent, accurate and timely commercial cost reporting for the allocated programme area
  • Assisting with the controlling of costs, maximising value and minimising future liabilities
  • Work collaboratively within other programme areas within the embedded alliance where appropriate to provide commercial support

Fostering close working relationships with all key stakeholders including the wider Commercial Team.

What will you be doing as our new Cost Clerk?

You’ll assist with the provision of transparent, accurate and timely commercial cost reporting whilst ensuring costs are controlled to maximise value and minimising future liabilities.

Furthermore, you’ll work collaboratively within other programme areas within the Embedded Alliance where appropriate to provide commercial support by fostering close working relationships with all key stakeholders including the wider Commercial Team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the provision of accurate cost reporting and forecasting to mitigate adverse financial impacts
  • Assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Assistant Quantity Surveyor with commercial reporting and ensuring the reporting information is accurate, meaningful and timely
  • Assist with the assurance of accurate and timely reporting of defined cost and forecast cost to complete to inform the Alliance Programme Pool position (current and forecast positions)
  • Support the financial close of cost systems within both the partner and employers cost systems (working closely with financial stakeholders where necessary), to minimise and mitigate disallowed cost exposure
  • Identify cost reduction and avoidance opportunities whilst providing support to help the Senior Quantity Surveyor in associated realisation of these efficiencies
  • Support the development and embedding of alliance business plans, with supporting commercial data analysis, where required

Skills

  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload so that targets and deadlines are met to ensure efficient and effective support to all teams
  • Demonstrate proactive and flexible approach to managing changing team priorities
  • Ability to adapt communication style (both written and verbal) to suit a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent understanding of all Microsoft packages, ability to manipulate and present data / information in a clear, concise and most appropriate way
  • Strong numeracy skills

Qualifications & experience

  • Awareness of NEC3 forms of contract
  • Awareness of relevant construction and contract law
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience using SAP e.g. Finance, Procurement, ALM
