Job Title: Cover Assistant Vacancy

Location: Waterlooville

Salary: Support Staff Grade D £25,628 (full-time equivalent) (Actual Salary: £7,291.99)

Job Type: Permanent, Part-time, 12hrs per week (term-time only, 40 weeks) (Minimum of 12 hours a week with

availability to work 5 days a week.)

Closing date: Sunday 17th March 2024, 5pm

Interview date: During week commencing 18th March 2024

Please note that this role has the potential for an increase in hours and is not limited to 12 hours a week.

The Trustees are seeking to appoint a Cover Assistant to join our hardworking, committed and enthusiastic team. This position is a pivotal part of the delivery of the curriculum to enable the high standard of teaching and learning in the School and Sixth Form College. The successful candidate will provide a range of services to support the members of the Teaching staff. This role will require the successful candidate to liaise with the Business Support Manager and Heads of Department as well as other members of the teaching and support staff. The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of the curriculum and experience of working within the academy school environment.

Responsibilities:

Support For Teachers:

  • Provide objective and accurate feedback to the teacher on the conduct of students during the lesson including keeping appropriate records as agreed with the teacher
  • Comply with instructions requested by the usual class teachers
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour

Administration Support:

  • Undertake administration tasks to support the administration team or cover absence
  • Input attendance of students on SIMS to cover absence with regular report writing
  • Update school noticeboards when required
  • Assisting in the school library
  • Any other reasonable administration tasks as required

Support For Curriculum

  • Make appropriate use of equipment and resources
  • Comply with lesson plans and instructions from class teacher

Personal Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified in Maths and English to level 2 or equivalent
  • Ability to work in sympathy with the ethos of the school
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
  • Appropriate professional attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
  • Values and respects the views and the needs of children and young people
  • Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and inspire students and staff

Desired:

  • Level 3 qualifications
  • Recent participation in a range of relevant in-service training
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use a range of strategies to deal with classroom behaviour as a whole and also individual behavioural needs
