Job Title: Deputy Port Manager

Location: Kishorn Port

Salary: circa £37.500, depending on experience

Job type: Core hours of work 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required to suit the needs of the business and during peak project periods, including weekend work on rotation.

About the role:

Due to expanding business needs and continued growth, Ferguson Transport & Shipping are currently recruiting for a Deputy Port Manager, based at Kishorn Port. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing logistics operations and projects within the Port.

Previous experience of working in a similar role is essential. The successful applicant must be self-motivated and have excellent organisational and communication skills. Competency in Microsoft packages, particularly Excel is essential for this post.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To manage & maintain safe and effective logistic operations and projects within Kishorn Port;
  • To assist the Port General Manager in directing and co-ordinating the provision of a safe, cost effective and efficient port facility;
  • To ensure company policies relating to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) and other company and department policies and procedures are complied with;
  • Ensure the effective management of the port with regards to projects and daily operations;
  • Work with SHEQ, the Company Directors and Managers to ensure safe working practices are in place within the port;
  • Deputise for the Port General Manager when required;
  • Maintain good and effective communications and strong operational links with internal colleagues – port and plant operators, engineering, shipping, transport, welfare and administration departments;
  • Plan tasks and effectively allocate plant and labour resources;
  • Support the administration team to ensure that all charges are applied accordingly for use of the facilities, equipment or storage areas;
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and visible stock-keeping records and reporting;
  • Assist with the effective management of vessels and marine assets in port while maintaining communication and safe port operations in line with the Port Marine Safety Code;
  • Manage berth and project area allocation;
  • Assist in coordination of safe port vessel operations;
  • Assist with port emergency, security & oil spill exercises drills and exercises;
  • Chair daily planning conference calls between clients and port personnel, as needed;
  • Provide regular updates of the ports’ daily activities & operations;
  • Supervise and assess competency of operations teams and other site personnel and contractors as required;
  • Assist to ensure that operational teams have been supplied with effective pre-task briefings, the relevant risk & method statements and permit to work documentation;
  • Assist to ensure that all contractors have the relevant documentation and authorisation to undertake works on site.
  • Lead proactively in ensuring that high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and organisation of the ports’ yards, quaysides, warehouses and welfare facilities are upheld by the port operational team;
  • Work with the maintenance team to arrange planned and reactive maintenance of plant or facilities;
  • Participate in weekly on-call cover rota;
  • To meet business needs duties may change from time to time and the role may require to undertake additional or other duties if necessary;
  • Ensure that the Kishorn Port facilities and the Deputy Port Manager role present a business-like and professional manner at all times.
