Job Title: DevOps Engineer

Location: Bournemouth BUT we are happy to support remote work if Bournemouth is unsuitable. Some overseas travel may be required.

Salary: £45,000-£60,000 (experience dependent)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Role:

At MIS, customer experience is at the forefront of everything we do. To help us build functional systems that improve customer experience we are now looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer. They will be responsible for database management, deploying & updating products, identifying production issues and implementing integrations that meet our customers’ needs. If you have a solid background in software engineering or are familiar with Python and Azure, we’d love to speak with you.

We are currently migrating our services from DigitalOcean to Azure in addition to some on-premises servers; which are mainly used for big data processing. The DevOps Engineer will need to create, maintain, upgrade, and keep services/servers secure inline with our development schedule. Additionally, the role will manage and improve our GeoServer solution, providing web mapping data to all of our products.

Job Duties:

  • Create, maintain & upgrade servers/services
  • Database administration for SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and MongoDB
  • Migrate services from DigitalOcean to Azure
  • Manage cloud environment (Azure)
  • Manage and improve GeoServer offering
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure services are containerised (Docker) and orchestrated (Kubernetes) appropriately

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Must have:

  • Experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar software engineering role
  • Experience with Cloud computing
  • Familiarity with container orchestration services (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with MicroServices
  • Experience administering and deploying development CI/CD tools such as Git & GitLab
  • Significant experience Linux operating system environments
  • Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions such as Python & Bash
  • Working knowledge of SQL/noSQL database administration

Highly desirable:

  • Experience with Azure
  • Experience with Nginx, Gunicorn/Uvicorn
  • Understanding of ETL architecture or prior experience with ETL

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/Experience developing RESTful Web Services

GIS (Web, QGIS, or ArcGIS)
