Job Title: Electrical Craftsperson

Location: Ratcliffe-on-Soar

Salary: £35,066 to £41,356 (Band R3) plus, if appropriate, disturbance allowance of £4,000+

Job type: Full Time. Unlimited hours.

At Ratcliffe, we play a key role in the transition to a low carbon future, generating electricity when there is insufficient renewable power and providing security of supply to the UK. Ratcliffe is the UK’s cleanest ever coal fired power station, fitted with SCR de-NOx technology and Flue Gas Desulphurisation.

The E,C&I Team at Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station are looking for experienced Electrical Craftspeople to fill discipline specific roles. This is an exciting time for Ratcliffe and represents a great opportunity for the right individuals to work with a diverse mix of both established and new plant and technology on a modern advanced power station.

These roles are “hands on” with the successful applicants actively working as part of the E,C&I Craft Team, using their fault finding, diagnostic, repair and maintenance craft skills.
A broad and in-depth understanding coupled with knowledge and experience of electrical maintenance within large scale industrial plant and power distribution systems is essential.

The role:

We are looking for people who can bring a flexible, enthusiastic approach, are highly self-motivated, conscientious and can demonstrate ownership of issues through to the implementation of solutions.
Your role will be to contribute proactively to the identification and rectification of breakdown, routine preventative and condition-based maintenance works using your industry relevant experience. You will have the opportunity to be part of a dedicated and vastly experienced Craft Team, growing and expanding your existing skill base. The role will involve working closely with contract partners to deliver a high-quality maintenance service.

You will be capable of demonstrating and deploying extensive knowledge and skills in a range of varied E,C&I work activities of a complex and non-routine nature in such a way as to maximise resource utilisation and plant availability. You must display capacity for individual responsibility and autonomy while demonstrating exemplary standards of safety culture.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Delivering routine based maintenance works on a wide and diverse variety of E,C&I plant and equipment.
  • Undertake maintenance of HV switchgear and system apparatus having the ability to recognise faults and provide corrective solutions.
  • Support and assist in engineering improvement projects in accordance with plant modification controls and process.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through the job plan improvement and failure reporting and corrective action system (FRACAS) processes, conducting root cause problem solving where required.
  • Supporting and mentoring trainees and other junior members of staff (i.e., apprentices) to develop future talent.
  • You will strive for and lead improvements and developments relating to the maintenance delivery aspects of your works.

Who we are seeking

Essential

  • A good working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and standards to IOSH or equivalent.
  • Time served relevant apprenticeship, or demonstrable suitably experienced and trained with significant expertise in electrical engineering maintenance practices on large scale industrial plant.
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance and fault rectification of HV circuit breakers and associated power distribution systems.
  • Be able to read and interpret electrical drawings and OEM technical manuals to enable you to complete maintenance on a range of electrical equipment and switchgear.
  • The ability to work effectively with peers and teams in a variety of contexts and situations.
  • A positive and proactive approach to all aspects of work.
  • Support colleagues and exchange ideas as well as constructive feedback.
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of SAP, Nisoft and office applications e.g., word, excel.
  • Ability to use test equipment to fault find on electrical control systems and LV power systems.

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • HNC or HND in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management systems, ideally SAP, and understanding of the importance in completing and reporting back findings.
  • Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial effects of plant operation.
