Job Title: Executive Director – Policy & Corporate Affairs

Location: Chester

Salary: £63,673 to £67,540 per annum

Job type: Full Time – Permanent

The University of Chester is one of the oldest higher education providers in England. We respond to the communities we serve and are proud of the care we take in facilitating students and alumni to play a full and valuable role in society. Established in 1839 and a university since 2005, the institution has seen significant investment and expansion, with current provision of a diverse curriculum to 15,000 students from around 130 countries. We are recognised for our excellence in pedagogy and are particularly interested in all students developing research skills. We have a demonstrable commitment to widening participation, the creation and exchange of knowledge that is significant and ethical, has a recognised impact, supports excellence, and has the goal of creating an enriching vibrant academic community for students and staff. Our research encourages strong private and public sector collaborations.

The University is forging ahead with its Citizen Student Strategy, and we are now seeking an impactful, forward-thinking, individual to work closely with and support the Strategic Executive Team. This is a new senior role, integral to the successful delivery of our Citizen Student Strategy, leading on analysing the UK political landscape and shaping policy positions to enhance opportunities for the University.

As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, you will also take on responsibility for a portfolio that includes communications, PR and media, alumni relations, corporate events and strategic projects. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of our strategy and lead a significant part of the University’s professional services.

You will be an experienced leader, ideally from an education-based organisation of comparable size and complexity. You will have a strong understanding of the higher education policy context and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders. In addition to your excellent research, analytical and communication skills, you will be comfortable working both strategically and operationally, in a complex and fast paced environment. You will be committed to the transformational power of higher education and the wider mission and value of the University and our ambitious future plans.

If you feel you have the skills and experience we are looking for then we would be delighted to hear from you. We value equality and diversity across our workforce and welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds.

The role is based in central Chester and we practise a hybrid working model. This is a full-time post, but we are committed to being inclusive and operating flexible working practices wherever possible.
