About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Exhibitions and Interpretation Manager to join our team.

Reporting to the Head of Content, the Exhibitions and Interpretation Manager will be responsible for all exhibitions on site from initial concept to take-down. You will play a key role in shaping the interpretation of the Bletchley Park story and will work closely with the Collections team, Research Historians and designers to prepare exhibitions, working collaboratively with all teams on site to ensure these are planned and coordinated with considerations for other activities taking place across the Park.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organise and plan for future exhibitions as well as one-off, pop-up, digital, short-term or temporary exhibits, as directed by the Head of Content
  • Plan the development of interpretive approaches and content for exhibitions, displays and other activities in collaboration with other teams to ensure all operational and visitor experience aspects have been considered including H&S, accessibility, communications and audience needs
  • Plan and deliver exhibition installations and de-installations, working with external contractors, specifying museum maintenance and space planning
  • Act as the Project Manager on new minor and medium-sized exhibition developments, working to agreed budgets and timescales, communicating effectively with the wider team
  • Produce exhibition script for graphics, AV and IM on smaller projects and supervising external scriptwriting contractors on larger projects
  • Liaise with Research Historians, Collections team and other stakeholders and topic specialists when developing new exhibition/interpretation projects, producing review materials where necessary and briefing other teams appropriately
  • Support the Head of Content in devising the future exhibitions programme and lead on its delivery
  • Oversee the maintenance of all exhibitions, managing the Museum Technician, external contractors and other staff/volunteers (as required) in its delivery
  • Manage the Exhibitions team staff and volunteers, using personnel management software and in-house appraisal processes

About you:

To be successful you will have demonstratable experience of interpretation and exhibition delivery within a museum/heritage venue, and be confident in exhibition content development, design and implementation. You will be a self-starter with strong interpersonal, project management and budgeting skills, proficient in IT with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.

This position is full time, working 37.5 hours each week, usually Monday to Friday 9.00 until 17.00. Flexibility to work before 9.00am and / or some evening and weekends on occasion is required.

You will be based on site at Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes.
