About the role:

Coordinate the movement of work-in-progress through manufacturing and subcontract processes. Set priorities through capacity constrained areas and areas not fully scheduled such as quality for critical parts which have been identified as key accounts critical paths. For example; the first parts in an assembly build sequence, parts with liquidated damage risk, key account OTD improvement, etc. The role is pivotal to coordinate between customer services, planning, production, QA and engineering.

Day to Day operations:

This role will involve tracking critical work-in-progress through the manufacturing processes to achieve the earliest delivery date on overdue work or items on a critical path for our key accounts.

Principal responsibilities

  • Agrees and communicates clear priorities across the organisation for overdue work in constrained areas
  • Tracks, monitors and report progress of critical WIP including the publication of weekly or even daily updated reports on key accounts and their order status
  • Attend customer meetings discussing overdue orders as required
  • Highly visible on the shop floor and uses their manufacturing knowledge to ensure the right prioritisation
  • Feedback to the planning & customer service team on manufacturing lead-times which are excessive or under-stated to help improve the accuracy of planning system lead-times
  • Coordinate and prioritise WIP at subcontract companies before external processing and capacity offload to ensure lead-time is not lost due to a lack of clear information
  • Reacts to internal quality issues to ensure adequate resources are mobilised to resolve the issue in a timely manner
  • Reacts to external quality issues and coordinates with quality and production to ensure containment and corrective actions are implemented, and either rework strategies are agreed, and prioritised or current work-in-progress is prioritised to backfill demand
  • Identifies any unplanned constraining areas for early escalation and prioritisation
  • Identifies and escalates any unreasonable or onerous customer or internal demands which could aversely consume resources and impact delivery
  • Works with quality to balance risk and delivery performance on internal quality requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in customer facing role, involving dealing throughout the order to delivery process
  • Highly personable and able to build strong and robust relationships, both with customers and suppliers
  • Manufacturing background and able to understand quickly the product flow through manufacturing
  • Experience of MRP systems and planning and scheduling tools and project management skills are desirable to work with planning and customer service teams
  • Proficient using MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices
  • Experience of ERP systems
