Job Title: Facilities Operative

Location: Luton

Salary: £16,500 – £33,500 per annum

Job Type: Permanent/ Full-time – working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Part time – between 16 – 24 hours per week, 2-3 days per week.

The general working hours will be 08:30 to 17.00 with 30-minute unpaid break.

We are currently recruiting for a Facilities Operative at our Luton Base.

Our Facilities Team keeps Harrods Aviation running smoothly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Often invisible to our customers, this talented team are the heartbeat of our operation, responsible for making sure everything is in the right place and works perfectly and looks immaculate.

Maintaining the luxurious surroundings that we are famous for is a full-time job, but it is worth it to ensure our customers enjoy an exceptional experience every time they visit us.

The Role:

Reporting into the HSE & Facilities Manager, the Facilities Operative will identify and report maintenance issues, taking appropriate action where required.

The Facilities Operative is required to regularly check all safety measures are in place and working, and ensure all jobs are completed within the necessary timeframes. The incumbent will undertake inspections and prepare works lists, note any essential or non-urgent work and contribute to general property refurbishment and maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, identifying electrical faults and decorating.

The Facilities Operative will undertake regular, preventative maintenance inspections and complete all relevant documentation included but not limited to Fire Alarms, Emergency light testing and Legionella checks.

The role will also be required to escort contractors while on site, ensuring they are aware of all H&S requirements; PPE and also ensuring that the area is safe to work for HAL staff.

The Company is able to consider applications for either full time or part time working hours for this role.

The Candidate:

  • The successful individual will also be required to ensure Contractors and suppliers carry out maintenance tasks on HAL facilities to the highest standards, including the checking of paperwork and standard of work, liaising with relevant management on a regular basis to update them on issues, contractors on site and work to be carried out.
  • The Facilities Operative will also be required to carry out any other duties or management requests that may be deemed appropriate to the role.
  • The Luton Base operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year, therefore the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business.
  • This means therefore on occasions; alternative working hours will be required and this may include weekend / night working.
  • Overtime as and when required is agreed with the HSE & Facilities Manager in advance, for which you will receive the options of payment or lieu time.
  • The successful candidate will have a background in building / facilities maintenance and may have previously worked in roles such as a caretaker, general handyperson or a multi trade tradesperson.
  • You will have several years’ experience in a facilities / general maintenance and repair work including undertaking of PPM’s.
  • You will also hold Basic electrical knowledge and have an understanding of Health & Safety regulations and compliance.
  • Basic IT skills are essential as is the ability to work with a positive and pro-active approach. You will also have excellent communication skills combined with courtesy and integrity.
  • Applicants should also have an enthusiastic, willing personality with a sense of humour and the ability to work on their own initiative. You are expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business and work demand.
  • The role may be required to provide support at both locations therefore a full UK driving license is essential, as is holding the right to live and work in the UK.
  • You will also need to have a 5-year checkable history in order to obtain an airport ID pass.
