The role:

We are looking to strengthen and evolve our Finance team, continually moving towards a proactive and effective finance function that will drive business decisions.

As a General Accountant, your main emphasis will be to support implementation of new systems, refining our processes to deliver best in practice and to maintain and enhance controls to ensure we deliver the best level of service to our internal and external customers.

About you:

We’re looking for a quality focussed, detail orientated, accountant, ideally from an Insurance, Loss Adjusting similar background. You’ll be experienced with SAP accounting systems implementation or have supported this and have a generalist accounting background. You’ll also have an analytical mindset with a natural fair for problem solving.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Hold full responsibility for the SAP general ledger
  • Complete monthly review of all balance sheet control accounts with attention being given to the follow up and closure of any discrepancies
  • Run fixed asset register in SAP and depreciation rules in line with accounting policy
    Supervise the reconciliation of the bank statements to accountancy database daily
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget and quarterly reforecast
  • Monitor actual performance against budget monthly
  • Investigate variances and provide updates on spend to relevant business areas
  • Assist in preparation of monthly management accounts and submissions to group
  • Ensure compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements including VAT and Corporation Tax returns
  • Complete and return quarterly surveys as required by the Office for National Statistics
  • Provide an efficient administrative service to the Finance Controller
  • Routinely support the employees in the finance department
  • Review & update Finance related policies and procedures in accordance with legislative & operational changes
  • Proactively drive the change in focus from operational led business decisions to commercially aware
  • Participate in projects as and when they arise
  • Always ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and highlight any contravention to the Managing Director

You will have / be:

  • You’ll ideally be ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or be working towards one of these qualifications. Previous experience in a commercial environment at similar level is a district advantage, however we will consider applicants with relevant analytical skills who are looking for their next step towards a General Accountant role
  • Payroll knowledge is desirable
  • As a small team it is essential that you’ll be flexible in terms of the tasks you undertake as well as being proactive and able to share prior knowledge and experiences.

  • Excellent numeracy, accuracy and administration skills
  • Competent use of MS office technology including Excel to an intermediate to advanced level. PowerPoint would be an advantage
  • Team focused – working with colleagues throughout the business
  • Proactive – responding to daily workloads as dictated by business requirements with effective time management skills
  • Excellent internal customer service and communication skills
  • Able to co-ordinate a variety of actions concurrently
  • Honesty and discretion in dealing with sensitive information
