Spherea UK has entered a growth phase and is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Hardware Engineer who will contribute to our growth and use this amazing opportunity to broaden their knowledge and progress within the company.

Your Role:

This role requires an individual with a logical & analytical mind-set who is always keen to learn and who will enjoy having a diverse range of engineering projects. The ideal candidate is self- motivated and result driven. Coaching and mentoring will be provided with the objective of developing the candidate to become autonomous in their day-to-day activities and to support their career aspirations. The role is based in the office in Bournemouth, with occasional travel to customer sites.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining engineering and electronics designs used across a number of industries such as Space, Air, Military and Nuclear
  • This is a unique opportunity to work on projects from start to finish:
    • Requirements capture: concept, specification and feasibility of solution
    • Provide support in project cost estimations (BoM’s)
    • Design and creation electronic hardware solutions using commercial off-the-self instruments and/or bespoke PCB designs
    • Supporting production (during manufacturing phase)
    • Working with different departments including production, logistics, design and test as well as with customers
    • Support the commissioning, and validation of the system
    • Play a key role in the final acceptance of the equipment
  • Finding innovative solutions to engineering challenges in order to meet budgets and timescales

Key Skills & Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor Degree or higher in one of the following: Electronics/Electrical, Power Electronics or Aviation/Aerospace
  • High level of Hardware Design skills and knowledge of Analog/Digital Electronics
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, at least 2 years in Engineering Design role
  • Knowledge of a PCB designing software (KiCad, Altium or OrCAD)
  • Fault finding skills at component level
  • Firmware development/debugging experience (microcontrollers)
  • Ability to quickly process the information and adopt approach to solving problems
  • Knowledge of complete manufacturing process including customer requirements, design, production, test and development
  • Good understanding of the life cycle of industrial projects
  • Excellent communicator
  • Enthusiast and self-motivated on new projects

Additional Skills or interests that would be advantageous:

  • Prior experience in Aviation/Aerospace Industry
  • LabVIEW
  • SolidWorks
  • FPGA designing
  • Knowledge of SPI, I2C, Ethernet, RS232 protocols.
  • An understanding of other engineering domains; e.g. Control Systems / Power / Electro-Mechanical / Physics / Radio-comms
