Job Title: Head Of Finance

Location: Poole, Dorset

Salary: Competitive and depending upon experience

Job Type: Permanent/Full-time – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Based in Poole, Dorset the successful candidate will report to the Managing Director and be responsible for managing the company accounts for Ventec 100 Ltd t/as Vent Engineering and Screwjack Ltd t/as Gatemotors.

You will also be responsible for the day-to-day control of the finance team, consisting of 4 people.

The companies have a combined turnover of over £11 Million per annum. The main trading company, Vent Engineering, has been trading for over 30 years and currently has over 90 members of staff. It is a family run company and has grown rapidly over the past 10 years.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • An accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or ACA).
  • Preferably a degree in accounting, business, economics or finance.
  • Several years’ management experience preferably in a busy SME environment.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment.
  • An understanding of data privacy standards would be very useful.
  • A strong Excel user that can work with large volumes of data with ease. More than capable of writing formulae and using pivot tables to analyse and extrapolate data.
  • Experience in using Sage 200

Core Duties will include:

  1. Manage all the company accounts systems using Sage 200, incorporating any other changes in the future, whilst complying with accounting standards
  2. Take overall responsibility, providing cover as required, for the day-to-day bookkeeping carried out by the Finance Team which includes:
    • Setting up and maintaining customer accounts on the Sales Ledger
    • Organising credit checks with our factoring company
    • Posting customer payments to the Sales Ledger
    • Allocation of customer payments to customer invoices
    • Factor account reconciliation and queries
    • Entering supplier invoices,
    • Reconciling supplier statements
    • Organising payment to suppliers
    • Prepare monthly CIS returns
    • Processing and reconciling the bank (including Paypal and credit cards on a daily basis)
  3. Motivate and lead finance team members by clarifying roles and providing helpful feedback
  4. Managing the expenses of the Directors, External Sales Staff and Engineers
  5. Review and authorisation of purchase invoices
  6. Upload of invoices to the factoring account
  7. Manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing system reports
  8. Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
  9. Create systems to prevent errors in data collection and calculations
  10. Prepare and post month end journals
  11. Produce monthly management figures for the Directors using Sage 200 & Excel
  12. Prepare the payroll information for our external payroll company
  13. Prepare VAT returns and submit to HMRC
  14. Liaise with the accountants as required to provide year-end figures and backup information to them. Update figures with any opening balance adjustments
  15. Management and review of the insurance renewals for the company
  16. National statistics survey submissions
  17. Provide accounts / finance support to the senior management team and staff
