Job Title: Head of Psychology and Therapies

Location: Lingfield, Surrey

Salary: £58,000 – £65,000 per year (Solbury Pay Scale 17-23)

Job type: Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)

Young Epilepsy is the children and young people’s epilepsy charity. Our purpose is to create a society in which children and young people with epilepsy are enabled to thrive and fulfil their potential, in which their voices are respected, and their ambitions realised. St Piers School and College form the education wing of Young Epilepsy, providing day and residential education places for 160 young people aged 5 to 25. Many of these learners have epilepsy, but the school and college also offer places to learners with other needs, including autism and acquired brain injury and a range of learning and physical disabilities.

The Role:

Responsible for the full operational day-to-day delivery, and strategic overview, of therapeutic input into the wellbeing of the children and young adults we support at St Piers School and College and Young Epilepsy. Ensuring that services are developed and delivered efficiently & effectively within robust educational and clinical frameworks, as well as incorporating flexibility and innovation as new opportunities and/or challenges present.

As part of the senior management team to work closely with the educational teams, Head of Residential, Nurse Consultants and Head of Quality Improvement specifically to provide consistent and cohesive support to ensure positive outcomes for children and young adults.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

What we need from you-

  • Post graduate professional qualification in Ed Psych and relevant therapeutic field to allow registration to practise.
  • Membership of a professional regulatory body HCPC and the professional body for Ed. Psychologists.
  • Experience of managing a team of professionals.
  • Ability to develop, improve and deliver therapeutic services
  • Clinical experience of developing and delivering highly effective person-centred pathways.
  • Demonstrable experience of influencing key stakeholders.
  • Used to working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Clinical-

  • Promote a holistic multi-agency and multi-disciplinary approach, across all therapeutic activity,
  • Ensure that the knowledge and skills of the therapist team members are continually updated; that team members operate within relevant legislative and statutory frameworks.
  • Device and implement programmes for individual children and young adults within the residential homes, college, school & Rehabilitation & Assessment unit.
  • Ensure that all the therapists and other related professionals are registered with the required statutory bodies and that any records of are kept.
  • Be aware of, review, understand and meet organisation performance standards, policies and procedures, targets and key performance indicators.
  • Provide input to strategic objectives, reviews and business plans and implement and monitor actions plans as necessary to ensure positive outcomes.
  • To produce reports and statistics as requested by the Executive Principal of St Piers and/or the Director of Health, Research & Compliance.
  • To attend/chair/participate in various internal and external meetings, student reviews and committees etc. as required.

Financial Management-

  • To Responsible for setting, managing and scrutiny of the therapy budget(s), in conjunction with the Executive Principal and the finance team.
  • Responsible for the overall effective coordination and deployment of resources across the therapy teams.
  • To review and authorise expenditure, expenses and invoices etc. as appropriate to the therapy budget(s).
  • To identify any necessary therapy resource issues, advise and/or make applications to appropriate funding streams in conjunction with respect lead therapists.
  • Experience of managing large budgets.

Staff Management-

  • To be responsible for the overall coordination of workforce plans, recruitment and retention across the therapeutic teams, accessing support from HR as necessary.
  • To effectively manage the lead therapists by setting clear professional objectives and targets.
  • Provide lead therapist with regular supervision and appraisal in accordance with YE policies and procedure.
  • To promote good team working both across the therapeutic team and therapists with other disciplines.
  • To arrange and chair regular therapy meetings and ensure these are properly recorded and actions followed up as necessary.
