Job Title: Health and Safety Lead

Location: Remote/ UK

Salary: £55,000 to £60,000 per annum

Job Type: Permanent/Full-Time

The role:

SYNLAB is Europe’s undisputed market leader in clinical diagnostics and constantly seeks ground-breaking ways of testing and maximising health technologies.

To continue its success of sustaining excellence throughout our labs, we are now looking for a Health and Safety Lead to join our diverse team.

In summary, the Health & Safety Lead is responsible for managing, personally, via direct reports or matrix management, the SYNLAB H&S management system and ensuring delivery against our regulatory and statutory requirements.

  • Lead the creation and development of the SYNLAB Laboratory H&S management system by shaping culture, policies, standards, guidance, and process improvements to ensure compliance with HSE legislation and other applicable regulations.
  • With the underpinning directive of delivering the SYNLAB safety culture and management system, this role will be central to ensuring compliance, risk management and a culture of safety continuous improvement.

Other duties include:

  • Oversee and maintain SYNLAB laboratory specific safety related documentation, programs, and policies; advise specifically on the safety aspects of the biological, chemistry, physical and engineering work undertaken by our laboratories.
  • Develop and Maintain the SYNLAB workplace balance scorecard to monitor H&S performance, identify safety trends, provide assurance on compliance and achieve H&S objectives
  • Lead continual improvement projects to improve efficiency of laboratory safety operations on site
  • Champion and promote a visible vibrant and positive H&S culture which reflect the vision and values of SYNLAB Laboratories.
  • Develop, schedule, co-ordinate and/or deliver laboratory specific core safety training to H&S team, internal stakeholders, including any re-training when required

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level in environmental health and safety.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • Demonstrable safety leadership experience in a laboratory environment
  • Auditing experience and use of accident investigation, root cause analysis, COSHH, Risk assessment tools
  • Experience in leading business through ISO 14500 accreditation
  • Ability to work well in cross functional teams
  • Proven track record of developing a H&S culture amongst teams with diverse skills and experience

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a few different types of laboratories including containment level 3 Microbiology Laboratory
  • Membership of IOSH
  • Science and or R&D HSE background
  • Qualifications in Fire Safety
  • HAZOP and or safety case development
