Salary: £13.83 per hour

Job Type: 15 hours per week (Saturday & Sunday)

The Charity’s Community Services are provided in the Almshouse accommodation on site at Blackheath and at Ralph Perring Court in Beckenham, through the vibrant communal space in the John Morden Centre and the case management approach that proactively identifies, assesses, and supports the most vulnerable in our community.

Job Summary/Purpose:

You will provide weekend support to residents at Ralph Perring Court. Dealing effectively with emergencies, as a first responder. Contacting emergency services and next of kin when needed. Reporting maintenance issues in accordance with out of hours reporting procedures. To support with events and activities out of hours. You will provide companionship, advice, and support to residents.

As part of the wider Health & Wellbeing Team at Ralph Perring Court you will complete administrative duties set by the office team and support individuals as a Case Worker. You will provide a wide range of advice including welfare benefits, debt management, housing, care, and support with practical issues. You will ensure that outcomes for individuals are monitored and documented and the impact of the service recorded. You will work with individuals to make sure their personal plans promote wellbeing, enable them to be as independent as possible and manage risks positively and safely.

Key Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To undertake reception/administrative duties that ensure a high standard of reception service is provided at weekends.
  • To provide an emergency first response to residents at weekends. Administering first aid or contacting emergency services and next of kin when required.
  • To sit with residents when they are confused or upset, provide companionship and befriending when needed.
  • To work with individuals to make sure their personal plans promote wellbeing and enable them to live independently.
  • Signpost people living in independence to external agencies for advice and support regarding debt management, and other social and legal issues.
  • To identify those at risk of loneliness and isolation, providing companionship and support
  • Liaise with external agencies and the Local Authorities, help with the completion of benefit, and other application forms
  • Provide information to make sure residents and their families know how to navigate the local health, social care and housing system, including offering advice and support.
  • Have a clear understanding of local community groups and resources in and around Beckenham. Support residents to identify and access local services that help maintain their independence.
  • Create opportunities for residents to work in partnership with others, through volunteering and other community projects.
  • Raise awareness and educate colleagues and volunteers on how to apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) to protect people who lack capacity. Maximise their ability to make decisions or participate in decision making.

The Candidate:

  • You must be proficient in the use of various computer systems and databases including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 or equivalent experience in a health and/or social care setting with older adults.
  • Minimum of Grade C in Maths and English GSCE
  • A qualified first aider or willing to complete the qualification
  • A working understanding of, and interest in, older people, their situations, and the opportunities they may want and/or need to explore and engage with to live safely in independence.
  • Successful interface with other statutory and voluntary sector organisations to achieve person focused outcomes.
