Job Title: Health & Safety Manager

Location: Homebased / Remote with travels to SYNLAB sites across the UK

Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 per annum

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

At SYNLAB, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with all health and safety legislation, fostering a culture of safety excellence, and driving continuous improvement in our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Health & Safety Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Health & Safety and play a central role in:

  • Ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Conducting generic and specialized risk assessments, incident investigations, and audits.
  • Delivering training programs and providing guidance on health and safety matters.
  • Collaborating in the development of the Synlab Laboratory Occupational, Environmental, Health, and Safety (OEH&S) management system.
  • Managing and overseeing the Synlab OEH&S strategy, management system, and regulatory compliance.
  • Supporting the environmental ESG green pillar in relation to OEH&S.
  • Promoting and championing a positive OEH&S culture that aligns with the vision and values of Synlab Laboratories.
  • Developing, scheduling, coordinating, and delivering safety training programs to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensuring the implementation of risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and safe work systems in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent certification.
  • Strong knowledge of current health and safety risk management legislation.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in guiding businesses through ISO45001 and ISO14001 accreditation.
  • Proficiency in auditing, accident investigation, root cause analysis, COSHH, and risk assessment tools.
  • Experience delivering health and safety training.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong prioritization and workload management skills.
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, confidence, and initiative.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple sites to support the H&S agenda.

Desirable:

  • Experience coordinating third-party providers or activities.
  • Healthcare or life sciences industry experience.
