The Charity’s Community Services are provided in the Almshouse accommodation on site at Blackheath and at Ralph Perring Court in Beckenham, through the vibrant communal space in the John Morden Centre and the case management approach that proactively identifies, assesses, and supports the most vulnerable in our community.

About the Role:

To provide excellent teamwork and to support the Hospitality Services Team in keeping kitchens and service areas clean and tidy, including pantries and catering equipment; taking food and drinks orders; preparing high quality nutritious food.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that customers benefit from freshly prepared, nutritious and well-presented food for breakfast, lunch and supper.
  • Keep kitchens and service areas clean and tidy, including pantries and catering equipment.
  • Take food and drinks orders.
  • Prepare and serve high quality nutritious food.
  • Deliver tasks as directed by the line Managers.
  • Ensure that all catering areas are always clean and safe by undertaking cleaning duties according to the cleaning schedule.
  • Record residents’ food pre-order.
  • Take payments using the till whilst complying with Morden College policies in terms of cash-handling and recording transactions.
  • Serve food in Cullum Welch Court Care Home dining areas and Cafe19, and deliver meals to our Residents living within The Quadrangle according to the standards.
  • Work in the College bar when required complying with cash-handling and recording procedures.
  • Comply with statutory regulations and organisational requirements, including but not limited to Health and Safety, Food Safety and Fire Safety by undertaking regular checks, completing records and reporting shortfalls when required.
  • Complete mandatory and CPD training and, achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
  • Wear PPE and/or other catering clothing required for the role which will be provided and approved by Morden College.
  • Ensure the utmost level of personal hygiene as well as an immaculate and well ironed uniform at all times.
  • Assist with moving items or equipment as directed as well as moving food to and from ambient, chilled or frozen stores.

The Candidate:

  • Food Safety Level 2 certificate.
  • Previous experience in a similar role which involved preparing, cooking and serving high quality food.
  • Be flexible to work on a rota basis which includes weekends.
  • Experience within a care setting (desirable)
  • Excellent customer service skills
