Job Title: In-House Legal Counsel

Location: Hemel Hempstead

Salary: From £60,000 per annum, depending on experience

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

About the Role:

We are looking for a UK Legal Counsel, with a keen interest and passion for Technology combined with a varied commercial contracts background. The role enjoys a high-degree of autonomy and responsibility and is high profile within the business as your key stakeholders include, CEO and CFO, Head of UK Sales, Director of Client Services and the Chief Operating Director – UK.

As UK Legal Counsel, you will be key in supporting the Commercial teams with a variety of contractual arrangements covering both Secure Payments and Customer Engagement solutions and for new business, renewals and extension of services to existing clients.

In addition, the role works closely with the Technical Product team to identify new technologies to obtain relevant protections for the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Legal Support:

  • Supporting the Commercial teams, sales team and account management, on all new and existing clients for the purposes of negotiating deals
  • Responsible for reviewing, preparing, negotiating and drafting a range of high-value complex commercial agreements
  • Working closely with the commercial teams to review contracts, identify areas of business risk and make recommendations
  • Supporting the commercial teams and wider business in legal discussions with customers, partners and suppliers
  • Preparing contractual documentation for issue to customers and suppliers
  • Assisting with RFP responses
  • Providing advice in the event of a commercial dispute

Data Protection and Security:

  • Acting as DPO for the business and handling and advising the business with data protection queries
  • A key member of the Security Group, managing the cyclical review of policies and procedures in line with the requirements of PCI-DSS
  • Assisting in responses to customer security audit questionnaires
  • Managing and responding to data subject requests

Intellectual Property:

  • Maintaining records relating to trademarks and patents
  • Working with technical teams to identify new technologies and working with external attorneys to obtain relevant protections
  • Monitoring competitor patent activity

Other responsibilities:

  • Providing regular training on legal matters to the Commercial team
  • Ensuring Senior Management are kept up to date on relevant law change
  • Supporting the US team on an ad hoc basis

About You:

  • UK qualified commercial lawyer with training in a reputable firm or in-house legal function, with 1-5 years PQE (as a guide)
  • Experienced in drafting and negotiating varied commercial contracts in a fast-moving environment, and the emotional intelligence and problem-solving approach to manage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • You will possess a strong knowledge of Intellectual property and data protection law
  • Have a self-motivated and proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
  • PC literate, with a good working knowledge of MS Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of working for a technology company is advantageous
