About the role:

This is an important role to support multiple strategic projects across the Group and maximise benefits delivered by our core systems. This role is central to coordinating needs and inputs from across the business and working with our developers to prototype, test and implement new features. You will have the opportunity to work directly with users daily and have access to client feedback as needed.

You will be working alongside another IT Product Manager on various topics – the exact scope of products for this role will vary depending on the successful applicant’s prior experience, but this could include some of the following:

  • Delivering outcomes for our Sales, Account Management and Customer services teams, including our client online Portal for managing services, reporting on services and ESG reporting
  • Delivering outcomes for our Marketing and Sales teams, including Dynamics 365, Click Dimensions and website development
  • Delivering outcomes for our Operations team, including 3rd party systems for vehicle tracking and weighing technology, a driver app and our client Portal for booking on jobs
  • Involvement with developing new products alongside our Innovation team

A key part of our systems architecture is a bespoke custom application called ‘Prada’, which will be relevant for all the above areas (SQL Server back end, MS Access front end). This application is used for various key functions across the business: from route planning and optimisation, to handling customer service tickets, to issuing client invoices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing, developing and managing activities from product definition & planning to production and release in line with the overall product vision
  • Interfacing between developers and users and working with stakeholders in the business to prioritise the product backlog
  • Managing supplier workload and performance, managing budget (~£50K) and invoicing, plus tendering for any changes in suppliers as needed

Additional responsibilities:

  • Developing overall product vision, strategy & outcome roadmap
  • Monitor, analyze and act on key product analytics (e.g. crash reports, bugs, feature abandonment, handling time)
  • Providing UI, UX or process design input as needed
  • Communicating about releases, demonstrating new ideas and features to stakeholders
  • Providing manual functional testing & coordinating user acceptance testing
  • Providing an annual forecast for hardware, software licensing and IT project costs for each financial year

Skills and experience:

  • At least 4 years working as a Product or Project Manager in a B2B environment
  • A history of managing successful products, including working closely with developers and stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to independently manage and prioritise workload
  • Excellent ability to problem-solve, with a data-oriented approach
  • Excellent attention to detail with a good analytical and conceptual eye (e.g. mapping processes and where these might be optimised)
  • Team player with the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good business and numeric sense with analytical mind
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including documentation and presentation
  • Competency in Microsoft Office 365 with advanced Excel skills
  • Work to the highest ethical standards and have a genuine interest in protecting the environment

Desirable (but not essential) experience

  • Project management experience
  • Experience working with Office 365 Power Platform and SharePoint
  • Commercial or business development experience in a B2B environment
  • Experience developing reporting or portal products
  • Experience managing products involving any of the following technologies would be a bonus: GA4, Android app development, SQL, Dynamics 365 or Click Dimensions
  • Experience in business process management or process analysis would be bonus
  • A bachelor’s degree in business or related field
