Job Title: IT Technician

Location: Hulme, Manchester

Salary: will be on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Scale, point 10-12 (£23,367- £24,915 per annum).

Job Type: This is a full-time, full-year post working 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. You will however, on occasions, be required to work outside these hours to meet the requirements of the college.

Purpose: To work as part of a team to assist staff and students in using all forms of IT equipment in the college, and assist in the running and development of the college IT infrastructure.

Responsible to: The Principal through the Head of Information Systems, Network Manager and IT Support Team Leader

Liaising with: All staff and students, including the Head of Information Systems, Network Manager, IT Support Team Leader and technical colleagues in particular.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • First- and second-line support for staff and student enquiries by logging, resolving and escalating IT support issues
  • Support all IT equipment within the college including peripherals such as AV devices, printers, telephony, door access and CCTV
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Use the college service desk to record issues and solutions
  • Use of Active Directory for account management
  • Provide IT support for college events including events out of usual college hours
  • Logging, tracking and inventory of IT Assets and licenses
  • Write and maintain system documentation
  • Package software for deployment
  • To prioritise tasks appropriately in the absence of any other instructions from line management
  • To undertake any other duties the Principal or designated alternate may reasonably direct from time to time within the context of the Loreto College contract
  • Assist in other areas of the IT network as required: monitor/maintain web filtering & security devices, procure equipment
  • Physical installation and patching of IT equipment, e.g. swapping desktop computers, provision of laptops
  • To liaise with external support providers to resolve issues as required
  • To ensure familiarity with the Cross College IT (CCIT) team’s aims and objectives

Out of hours work

  • On occasion the successful candidate will be required to support college events out of college hours and potentially provide support in case of system failure

Whistleblowing

  • All CCIT employees have a specific and explicit duty to inform the Senior Management if they are or become concerned that poor or inappropriate practice or procedures threaten the safety or integrity of all or any part of the IT service, software, hardware or data

Staffing

  • To undertake staff development where appropriate

Deployment of Staff

  • To work as part of a team and to ensure effective working relations

Quality Assurance

  • To ensure the effective operation of quality assurance systems
  • To assist with the implementation of College quality procedures

Communications

  • To liaise with relevant external bodies as appropriate

Marketing and Liaison

  • To contribute to the College liaison and marketing activities.
  • To link with external agencies as appropriate.

Management of Resources

  • To contribute to the maintenance of an attractive working environment in the IT areas and any other rooms used.

Other

  • To support the aims and objectives of the College
  • To attend meetings as appropriate
  • To wear the corporate clothing provided by the College, where appropriate, or otherwise
  • standard business attire
  • To undertake any other duties the Principal or her designated alternate may reasonably
  • direct from time to time within the context of the Loreto College contract
