About the role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen and we are looking for a talented dynamic hands-on Junior Sous Chef to join our established kitchen team at The Lowry. You will help prepare, cook and serve food for all Hospitality areas of The Lowry including our Pier Eight Restaurant. You will be responsible for ensuring a constant high standard of quality and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain quality, standard and service levels throughout food production and service in compliance with all current legislation.
  • Cook, prepare and present food for all areas of the Hospitality Department at The Lowry, as directed by the Executive Head Chef.
  • Ensure that quality and standards are maintained throughout food service to agreed specifications, whilst maintaining excellent customer service levels.
  • Meet the day-to-day requirements of The Lowry by working effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Assist in the compilation of menus, food costings and stocktaking procedures
  • Work without supervision to The Lowry standard to accomplish tasks.
  • Assume responsibility for the kitchen, under the guidelines of and in the absence of Senior Chefs.

  • Assist in the ordering of food commodities.
  • Maintain effective quality control systems.
  • Make the effective use of all food commodities, by ensuring their correct storage, handling and stock rotation.
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is used correctly and properly maintained with any defects immediately reported.
  • Ensure that the health and safety regulations are upheld in the kitchen together with the responsibilities for the completion of all legal documentation and monitoring.

  • Report to the Executive Head Chef any health and safety hazards in regards to working practices, defective equipment or the working environment.
  • Comply with company operational standards and procedures.
  • Promote and comply with legislation and The Lowry’s policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
  • Identify and undertake training and development as required in order to meet personal and business needs.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties, commensurate with the level of the post so as to ensure the smooth running of The Lowry.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work under direction, within a team or on own initiative, in compliance with The Lowry standards and procedures.
  • Adaptable, flexible and fully understand the importance of the need to provide a high standard of workmanship.
  • Good customer care skills.
  • Ability to manage costs and monitor wastage.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate to be undertaken within 1 year of service.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate. City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 or equivalent experience/qualifications
  • Experience as a chef.
  • Carbon Literacy trained or passion for sustainability.
