Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex

Salary: £10,362 per annum

Job type: Part-Time, Permanent (34 weeks a year)

Hours: 4 days a week, 9am to 2pm

Closing date: 9am on Monday 4th October 2021

Great Walstead School is an Independent Prep School for children aged 2½ – 13 years situated in 300 acres of woodland, with excellent facilities and a caring family atmosphere. You will be joining a thriving prep school in the heart of Sussex with a friendly, hardworking and supportive team.

The Role:

  • To assist the catering team in the kitchen operation and production of meals for pupils and staff – up to 500 meals at lunchtime.
  • To assist with catering for various School functions and special events.
  • To ensure the School’s reputation for food quality is maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the catering department in preparation and serving of food and beverages during the school day
  • Provide catering support for School events and functions in line with the School Calendar
  • Assist with School events when catering is required, including out-of-hours if requested.
  • Assist with daily cleaning
  • Minimise waste levels at all stages of the catering process.
  • To ensure that pupils, staff and parents are given a prompt and efficient service and expectations are consistently met.
  • To be customer focused at all times; approachable and quick to fulfil customer needs.

The ideal candidate will have/ be:

Essential

  • Literate & Numerate
  • Ideally hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety
  • Catering background
  • Previous experience of mass catering
  • Ability to multi-task during busy times
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, pupils and staff
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Customer Service
  • Have a working knowledge of fresh food preparation
  • Good attention to detail
  • Calm personality
  • Be able to work as part of a team and be approachable, friendly and cheerful
  • Ability to achieve performance criteria set by school
  • Positive approach to learning in role
  • Self-motivated
  • Sense of own initiative
  • High standard of personal hygiene
  • Flexible approach to role in hours working

Desirable

  • First aid certificate
  • Dietary awareness

Please Note:

  • Uniform will be provided
  • PPE provided and must be worn
  • Some weekend may be required
