Job Title: Laboratory Manager (Drug & Alcohol)

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £49,000 – £55,000 per annum, DOE

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hrs a week (occasional Saturday working as and when required)

Established in 2011, Lextox is a well-established ISO 17025 UKAS accredited testing laboratory based in Cardiff providing drug, alcohol and DNA testing services for family law cases and childcare proceedings and forms part of the SYNLAB Group. SYNLAB in the UK is a trusted expert in clinical laboratory and medical diagnostic services.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join our team at Lextox, on a full time and permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop, lead and manage all laboratory activities and drive the continuous improvement program within our hard-working team as well as participating positively to the direction of the business as part of the senior management team.

The Role:

  • Ensuring that the company meets the technical and process requirements of ISO 17025 and UKAS Lab 51
  • Managing all laboratory staff and ensuring that SOP’s are maintained and reflect current practice
  • Monitor laboratory performance, internally generated QC samples and any developing trends. Action any non-conformances raised in a timely manner
  • Responsible for ensuring laboratory staff support client queries, in a professional friendly manner and on a timely basis
  • Developing and implementing laboratory Plan including staff training plans
  • Working with our research team to help define and implement practice, process and protocol improvements to our workflow in the laboratory including supporting the development and validation of new methods
  • Responsible for the implementation of new methods and additions to the testing portfolio for detection by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS
  • Represent the Laboratory function as part of Senior Management Team and leading cross functional groups in the delivery of projects

What we’re looking for:

  • Educated to Degree Level in Biology or Chemist related subject
  • Minimum of 8 years laboratory experience with at least 2 years’ experience in management of an accredited laboratory
  • Experience in ISO 17025 accredited lab
  • Experience in working within a regulated QMS
  • People management skills and the ability to development teams and individuals
  • Ability to think strategically, plan-ahead and make timely decisions with a high-level of attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Recognised management qualification
  • Experience within a toxicology laboratory would be an advantage
