Salary: £33,290 – £39,875 per annum

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Working Hours: 37.5 Hours Per Week

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a Bristol-based national charity that supports people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes. We do this by sharing our knowledge, practical experience and policy insights.

The Role:

We are looking for an exceptionally driven and knowledgeable individual with excellent project management, communication, planning and facilitation skills to help drive forward effective local area energy planning and enable the transformation of local energy systems.

CSE has grown significantly in recent years, and we see further opportunities to increase our impact. That’s why we’re now recruiting a new ‘Local Energy Engagement Project Manager’ to work alongside our Net Zero Local Energy Engagement Lead on initiatives at the forefront of place-based net zero delivery across the UK.

Through this role you will support local authority officers and other place-based actors in the design and delivery of a broad and diverse range of innovative initiatives. These will marry technical data and commercial realities with the needs and priorities of people and places and in the process help to build leadership commitment, know-how, and consent for widescale action.

Amongst other things, this could involve:

  • Developing an engagement approach to ensure key local stakeholders are involved in the development of a Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP).
  • Leading householder and community engagement on place-based innovation initiatives such as Bristol Heat Pump Ready.
  • Creating and delivering workshops and learning programmes to help support local authority officers build engagement strategies for their communities.
  • Gathering stakeholder input into the development of open access enabling tools used by local authorities such as IMPACT or Solar Wizard.

The Candidate:

Educational or professional qualifications:

  • GCSE/O’ levels in Mathematics and English

Experience of:

  • Managing projects and project teams.
  • Designing and implementing stakeholder engagement processes and programmes involving actors across a range of seniorities.
  • Working closely with or within a UK local or combined authority.
  • Working as part of a matrix management system, across teams and on several different projects at the same time.
  • Designing and delivering engaging workshops and events

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Non-technical challenges preventing progress in the net zero and decarbonisation space
  • Local authority climate emergency declarations and key priorities and challenges in the achievement of local authority climate action plans
  • Inclusive local and community-centred approaches to consultation, engagement, and empowerment

Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent budget management and reporting skills
  • Excellent virtual, hybrid and in-person facilitation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences in an appropriate and accessible manner
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage competing priorities
  • Self-motivation and initiative, with ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
  • Good time management skills
  • Competent in use of MS office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
