Job Title: Male Youth Work Intern

Location: Putney

Salary: £24,000 per annum

Job type: Fixed term – 1 year, 35 hours per week (Full Time)

About the role and Regenerate:

Regenerate is looking to recruit a highly motivated Intern to train as a Youth Worker and Mentor. As a youth work intern, you will support Regenerate’s youth work in Putney, Roehampton and surrounding areas while also developing your own skills.

Regenerate is a youth charity based in Roehampton, SW London that aims to create opportunities for young people to thrive.

Regenerate’s mission is to inspire and support young people by building strong, lasting relationships and creating life changing opportunities; helping them grow in confidence, make the best of their lives and impact the world for good.

Our youth club and mentoring service provides a safe space to hang out while also providing opportunities that support young people to develop key skills such as; confidence, ability to plan, self-management and social skills; build positive relationships, and engage with education employment and training opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Support planning and delivery of 3 youth work sessions a week, and support other activities or trips during holidays and occasional weekends
  • Proactively engage young people and build positive relationships with them, their families and the local community
  • Take responsibility to effectively manage challenging behaviour, utilising you’re training and Regenerate’s policies and procedures
  • Work effectively with the team to deliver good youth work practice
  • Learn about, implement and review risk assessments for youth activities
  • Assist in collating monitoring and evaluation information
  • Plan and deliver mentoring sessions to a caseload of mentees in the community and local schools, co-developing action plans tailored to mentees’ goals and based on an executive function skills development approach
  • Adhere to Regenerate’s code of conduct, protocols and practices when working with all young people (All necessary training will be provided)
  • Interact with the Jack Petchey Foundation to maximise benefits of the internship programme; including attendance at e4vents, training and mentoring opportunities throughout the year

  • Have a knowledge, understanding and commitment to promoting equity and diversity
  • Excellent communicator
  • Team player with self-motivation, perseverance and determination
  • Sensitivity and pragmatism to deal with delicate situations
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and build relationships quickly

You may also have:

  • Some experience of working with young people
  • A good understanding of the issues that young people face today
  • Administration experience
