Job Title: Market Engagement and Development Manager

Location: Bristol

Salary: £34,062 – £40,800 per annum

Job Type: Full time, 2 year fixed-term contract.

Retrofit West CIC is a new community interest company formed by the Centre for Sustainable Energy to accelerate home and building retrofit activity. The West of England Combined Authority has commissioned Retrofit West CIC to deliver a retrofit accelerator homeowner advice service across the region.

Retrofit West will establish a one-stop-shop advisory service for homeowners carrying out ‘whole house’ retrofitting activities on their homes. The service will encourage and support homeowners through the entire process, from initial thoughts about retrofit works, through planning interventions and on to the completion of installations.

The Role:

We seek a dynamic and driven Market Engagement and Development Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cultivating and reinforcing our membership network, comprising trusted contractors, installers, and designers, with the objective to deliver a quality whole-house retrofit service.

Overall, the selected individual will play a crucial role in building and strengthening our network of professionals, thereby advancing our mission to create sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious building solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Contractor Engagement:

  • Design and implement outreach activities to educate contractors about opportunities in the retrofit industry and understand the challenges faced by SMEs in this sector. This involves visiting businesses on-site and at their premises
  • Identify and onboard new contractors from various building trades to become members of Retrofit West
  • Maintain regular communication with contractors to establish a two-way feedback

  • Assess contractor training needs and collaborate with the project steering group to develop new training programs
  • Provide mentoring to businesses, guiding them to achieve TrustMark+ accreditation and secure council contracts by addressing gaps in areas like CDM, RAMS, insurance and quotes

Innovation and Development:

  • Project manage the development and generation of the RetrofitWest Hub, an online collab space for the retrofit market
  • Research and create innovative approaches to support SME growth within Retrofit West, collaborating with colleagues and project partners
  • Foster partnerships with external entities to establish connections with initiatives such as apprenticeships and schemes developed during the 2-year projects
  • Compile insights from the Retrofit West team, contractor members, and designers to produce effective sales materials

Project Administration:

  • Prepare regular weekly and monthly reports for internal monitoring and present updates to the project steering group as needed

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Liaising with building contractors and retrofit installers and / or mentoring and guiding SMEs
  • Understanding of the built environment, retrofit industry and / or the technicalities of retrofit
  • Project administration
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and site safety awareness.

About you:

Qualifications:

  • GCSE/’O’ level Maths and English
  • Level 5 Retrofit Coordinator qualification (Desirable)

Experience:

  • At least one year’s experience working in the construction industry
  • Experience in specifying requirements, identifying, appointing and managing third party agencies and or delivery partners
  • Experience of assessing the suitability of contractors working within a construction project. This could be criteria based, tender process or other methods
  • Experience of stakeholder management of contractors

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good people skills, ability to talk confidently to all roles within the construction sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Leading and developing members of staff under your responsibility.
  • Good at facilitating professional networking activities

Technical Skills:

  • Driving Licence

Place Of Work and Other Requirements:

  • This post is based at the Retrofit West office in Bristol, with some home working
  • Travel to meet contractors at their offices, events and conferences will be required
  • This post is subject to a DBS check
  • The postholder will undertake City & Guilds Energy Awareness training as part of their
  • induction
  • There will be a six-month probationary review
