Job Title: Materials Finisher

Location: Nottingham/Derby

Salary: £18,500 – £20,000 dependant on experience.

Job Type: 37 hours per week – 7.00am to 3.30pm Mon-Thurs (30 mins lunch), 7.00am to 12.00pm Fri (no lunchbreak)

The role:

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced materials finisher to join our busy and highly motivated manufacturing team. Our equipment goes into university laboratories around the world and expectations on function and finish are very high with most machined parts visible to our customers. This role is a critically important part of delivering the quality TecQuipment are renown for.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The role of the Materials Finisher is to carry out surface finishing of thin gauge sheet-metal components, welded assemblies and machined components made in the Machine Shop in preparation for in-house painting or external finishing operations.

This will involve the use of power tools, hand tools and associated equipment to clean-up components to the required standard. The work is tremendously varied as we operate with very low batch sizes and a very wide range of components mainly made from mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

Specific duties will include:

  1. Preparation of laser cut blanks prior to subsequent manufacturing operations
  2. Production of high-quality finishes on sheet-metal and machined components ready for painting or external finishing processes (anodising or plating) using power tools, hand tools and associated equipment
  3. Shot blasting components before or after manufacturing/assembly processes
  4. Self-inspection of all work produced
  5. Support the Materials Handler preparing materials for machining when necessary

Essential

  • In-depth experience of preparing thin gauge materials and/or machined components
  • Experience of working in a small batch-size, flexible manufacturing environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and appreciation of surface finish requirements, especially in relation to parts going on to be anodised and/or painted
  • Strong work ethic and can-do attitude
  • Able to work well with others and confident working on your own

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a small or medium sized manufacturing business
  • Experience of working in an advanced manufacturing environment
  • A willingness to help in other areas of the factory should the demand arise.
