Job Title: Member Services Officer – Loans Team

Location: Oldham

Salary: £22,000 – £23,000 per year

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Founded in 2002 Oldham Credit union (OCU) is a not for profit, democratic financial co-operative owned and run by its members.

Our mission is to provide access to fair financial services which promote greater financial inclusion and make a key contribution to the economic well-being of the Oldham Community.

We currently have over 5000 members holding £1.7M in savings and over £1.2M out on loan.

We are looking to build on these strong foundations and improve and grow the organisation. As part of this re-organisation we are looking to appoint a Member Services Officer (Loans).

The Role:

To assess loan applications in accordance with credit union policies and procedures.

To work closely with a team of staff and volunteers to monitor the loan portfolio and ensure that it is managed safely and effectively.

To contribute to the ongoing development of appropriate credit union policies, procedures and products to enable the credit union to achieve ambitious growth targets.

Key duties and tasks:

The Role includes (but is not limited to);

  • To ensure that all lending enquiries, by phone, face to face, in writing and via the website and mobile App are dealt with effectively
  • To underwrite loans according to credit union policy and procedures up to an agreed limit of authority
  • To communicate loan decisions to members and to issue loan agreements
  • To work with the Senior Member Services Officer (Operations) to monitor, improve and develop the credit union’s lending service
  • To support the introduction and promotion of new products and services
  • To provide monitoring information as required
  • To update member accounts and to undertake any associated duties relating to member accounts
  • Undertake any necessary training and development as and when required
  • To cover essential duties / operations of the credit union during absence and holidays
  • Attend regular staff meetings
  • Produce statistics as required by the organization
  • Carry out any other reasonable task to support the effective operation of OCU as required

We are looking for the following Essential Criteria:

  • Strong numeracy, verbal and written skills
  • Experience of using IT systems and applications (Word, Excel, Power-point, Outlook)
  • Good Team Player
  • Accurate with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills written and spoken
  • An understanding of the need for compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Commitment to the ongoing future development of the credit union

We are looking for the following Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working in a financial / customer service setting
  • Experience / Knowledge of Loan assessment and underwriting
  • Ability to confidently use various IT systems and platforms, which includes (but is not limited to): The Credit Union’s CRM system; the Credit Union’s customer interaction mobile app (currently Nivo); Website and Social Media
  • An understanding of what constitutes ‘a vulnerable customer’, and the ability to interact appropriately with members who fit this description
