DB Cargo UK is the UK’s largest rail freight company. We provide freight, infrastructure and passenger charter trains throughout the UK, and freight services to and from mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. We also provide traction and train crew for scheduled passenger operators.
The role:
We are currently recruiting for a Operational Finance Manager to join our Finance team based at our Head Office in Doncaster. This role is responsible for the preparation of financial analysis and guidance to support decision making within the Sales & Production Functions.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Effective Business Partnering with Sales Head of Sector, Account Managers, Senior Production Managers and Contract Delivery Managers, in order to ensure that financial targets are achieved.
- Support the integrity of the financial and internal control environment.
- Provision of relevant financial analysis, in order to support decision making & effective cost control.
- Responsibility for all financial information to support Sales Board Papers and Capital Investment papers.
- Highlight adverse variances to functional management, and recommend actions.
- Develop a greater financial awareness and understanding within functional Sales & Production management teams.
- Lead the delivery of the Mid Term Planning process (MTP) for Sales and support planning for Production.
- Collate narrative summary and describe key features and trends in month end reports, commentaries and reporting packs.
- Drive the continuous improvement of Flow Profitability reporting. Identifying areas to improve data presentation and added value analysis.
- Lead the business sector to use flow profitability information to drive real financial improvements in the profitability of flows.
- Manage the completion of internal audit work on controls and process in respect of drivers, ground staff and inventory.
- Deputising for the Head of Operational Controlling in functional and business wide senior management meetings.
- Lead and manage 2 Operational Controllers.
- Point of contact for liaison with Data Analysis team.
Qualifications:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), or qualified by experience.
- Strong team player, able to work alongside Commercial & Operations managers
- Highly analytical, with focus on improving financial statements.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Flexible and enthusiastic.
- Good systems skills (SAP, TM1, Excel)
- Able to lead and motivate others
