The role:

Your working time will be formed of a mix of on the job training, productive working time as well as a mix of learning interventions which are carried out by an industry expert Apprenticeship Provider.

We are offering a 2 year Apprenticeship which will see you complete an Engineering Operative NVQ and complete your PTS alongside performing trackside weedfree activities.

Your salary will increase to £18,000 p/a after completion of your first year and you will have the opportunity to fill a Rail Operator (RO) position at the end of the 2 year Apprenticeship in one of the RO catchment areas, with the potential to earn over £32,000 per annum.

What it’s like to be an Apprentice at GBRf?

This opportunity will offer you the chance to gain a good foundation of knowledge about the railway environment, developing problem solving skills and gaining a solid understanding of railway safety standards. Whilst learning you will gain trackside experience and perform Weedspray duties which ultimately ensures tracks are clear and safe to run for service during peak seasonal times.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

You will perform shift based duties that require you to travel with each circuit operating the seasonal modules and equipment via a handheld remote control handset (Cattron). You will be required to perform basic fault-finding and system resets. You will also manage our ticksheet obligations, a critical contractual requirement of ensuring payment from our customer.

Safety is our biggest priority and we will provide you with a range of training to give you the skills to do your role and show you how to use equipment via remote control.

The Candidate:

  • A-C or 4-7 Grade in English and Maths
  • UK Manual Drivers licence
  • Successfully complete a Pre employment Train Working medical
  • Flexibility to cover a varied shift pattern
