Job Title: Outreach Energy Advisor

Location: Bristol

Salary: £24,255 to £29,053 Dependant on experience

Job Type: Full time, Fixed-term 12 months

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a Bristol-based national charity that supports people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes. We do this by sharing our knowledge, practical experience and policy insights.

The Role

Working within our Household Energy Services (HES) team, the home-based Somerset Outreach Energy Advisor role is for someone with three or more years’ experience of giving advice or helping others and who can provide good customer service. This role is best suited to someone resilient with strong personal boundaries.

You’ll primarily be working out and about in Somerset giving face-to-face advice, presentations to groups and home visits. Access to personal transport to travel to meetings, homes and businesses across the county is essential.

You will be supporting certain individual people over a period of time – what we call casework. There is also a strong administrative element to the role so accuracy and excellent attention to detail are key along with a place at home to be able to work comfortably.

Responsibilities include

  • Talking to people at events and advice surgeries and give presentations and talks to front line workers and advice organisations.
  • Helping people apply for grant funding or vouchers for their prepayment meter.
  • Helping people with various difficulties with their energy bill.
  • Talking to people who are struggling to afford basic necessities and finding them the right help and support.
  • Help people apply for renewable technologies, heating and insulation improvements.

Ideal Candidate

  • Confident talking to people and delivering presentations, talks and training.
  • Skilled and confident in making and receiving calls.
  • Quick thinker who can react to the many needs of the people we support.
  • A strong sense of empathy.
  • A strong sense of personal boundaries.
