Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm

About the Role:

Due to our continued growth and expansion plans we’re recruiting for a packing and despatch operative to work alongside our existing teams at our fully equipped site with melting, rolling, heat treatment, grinding, straightening, cutting and testing capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Sheffield’s dynamic and long-standing companies – a key fixture in the Sheffield Steel industry!

Main Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities expected from this role are:

General:

  • Maintain good levels of timekeeping and productivity
  • Maintain good levels of housekeeping throughout the works, and in particular, your own area of operation
  • Be responsible for your machines/equipment. Check any appropriate guards and safety devices are in place before operation; operate equipment in line with how you have been instructed; control & adjust machine settings; test operation of machines periodically; fix any issues that might occur; maintain machines and equipment in line with manuals/instruction; ensure machines are regularly cleaned down
  • Safely use Overhead Cranes and Fork Lift trucks to move material around the works
  • Store material correctly & safely when not in use
  • Follow reasonable instructions given by your managers
  • Attend any training that you have been identified as requiring
  • Act responsibly and safely at all times

Final Inspection, Packing & Despatch Tasks:

  • Safely load and unload the benches with material to be inspected/marked
  • Setting and operation of marking machines
  • Creation of packaging cases & pallets
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Accurate and precise measurement using tapes, micrometres, verniers, gauges and callipers
  • Preparation of test samples, operation of hardness machines, reporting & recording results accurately
  • Interpret/read engineering drawings and route card instructions correctly
  • Operator machine maintenance – pre-start checks, metalworking fluid checks, swarf removal, clean down etc
  • Act responsibly and safely at all times

About you:

Essential Skill Requirements:

  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work well with others (Essential)
  • Must have a safety conscious mindset (Essential)
  • Must have worked within a steel or heavy industry before (Essential)
  • Candidates must show demonstrable experience of machining different alloys
  • Training or Licences in the operation of Overhead Crane/Forklift Trucks (Refresher training can be provided)
  • Willingness to take on additional training as required by the business
