The Role:

To retain full responsibility and ensure effective running of the Pallet operation, including oversee the efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of all products. Management of the people, processes and systems to make sure productivity targets are met. Overseeing the maintenance of administration and driver planning systems to achieve own accountabilities and optimum operational performance.

Requirements:

Must haves:

  • Proven experience of working within a transportation or distribution managing role (Min of 2 years)
  • Mature, professional approach, confidence to communicate and deal with all levels of people both internally and externally up to and including director level
  • Desire to develop a career in Management / Leadership
  • Proven strong Influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent numerical skills and a sound understanding and management of budgets
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills working on your own or within a team
  • Confidence to present to an audience, including briefings to employees and customers and delivery of financial updates to the Board members
  • PC literate – Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint and Transport IT/ web-based systems
  • Have the ability to think quickly on your feet and to confidently make decisions
  • Be flexible in your approach to work and hours
  • Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport
  • Full driving license

  • Customer Service level – >99%
  • Budget control – >97%
  • Alliance system management & completion – 100%
  • Performance Management of team – 100%

Key Accountabilities:

Customer Service:

Take a strategic role and manage the planning, coordinating, administration and general management activities, which includes:

  • Planning, coordinating and monitoring the receipt, order assembly and dispatch of goods
  • Ensure that systems in place to generate short- and long-term requirements for the business which are briefed to the business and your teams
  • Introduce new ideas that improve the utilisation of labour and capacity within the warehouse

Financial Delivery:

Effectively own and control of the budget, for all areas of Pallet Networks

  • Ensure that systems are in place to generate short- and long-term forecasts, which are briefed to the business and any action plans drawn up for improvements
  • Budget management and reporting, including presenting to the management and leadership team on a regular basis
  • Be actively involved in generating the long term forecast requirements for future projects and engaging new customers for the Pallet Networks

People Management:

Manage and organise the allocation of workload within your team. Recruit and retain the right calibre of people. Lead, motivate and inspire the team to achieve business performance, personal development, and continuous improvement, ensuring that there is a safe working environment. Examples include the following:

  • Leading by example and keeping staff motivated
  • Effective Performance management of operational teams
  • Involvement of recruitment of new team members

Communication:

Manage effective communications with internal and external customers, suppliers and operational teams to ensure all the needs of the business are met, including the following:

  • Interpretation of customer requirements and application in all areas of the business
  • Provide accurate information to allow customer and operational team to make informed decisions.
  • Communicate to suppliers on any service related issues to achieve resolution
