The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Plant Engineer (Mechanical) within our Llanwern Mills. Within the role, you will support and report to the Area Maintenance Manager with the coordination of the area’s engineering activities and implementation of appropriate engineering standards to drive continuously improving manufacturing performance, to deliver our Annual Plan. The incumbent of the role will continuously develop and implement a cost effective preventative maintenance regime in line with the maintenance strategy for the Works Area. The role will cover preventative and reactive tasks in order to maintain the set availability targets.

You will support and drive the failure analysis processes and ensure that all engineering activities are carried out in line with the standards and strategy for the Works Area (e.g. management of spares, management of contractors, budget management, engineering standards & procedures, failure reduction, maintenance planning, regulation compliance etc.).

You will ensure effective use of the SAP system is implanted to plan, carryout and feedback maintenance tasks to a controlled budget. Utilising the cost and scheduling processes that are in place. Along with management of spares and stock levels working closely with the spares department to ensure plant requirements are always fulfilled.

Cross discipline communication and information sharing Is essential in ensuring smooth rectification of plant issues and forward planning of key maintenance tasks, utilising Production, Technical, Engineering and the Shift Teams.

What we’re looking for?

The successful candidate will have previous experience in mechanical plant engineering work. Ideally, you will be educated to Degree level but be qualified to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant discipline as a minimum. Applicants will have an appreciation of the techniques, problems and standards associated with steel or related engineering disciplines.

Some of the key attributes we are looking for in applicants include:

  • A knowledge of statistical and problem solving techniques with computer literacy and good oral and written communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of Permit Systems-Fluid Power/PBS/ATW.
  • Ideally IOSH qualified
  • Understanding of HR processes/procedures.
  • Legislative Ownership (PSSR, PUWER, LOLER)
  • Understanding of contractor governance.
  • Ability to project manage small improvement SRE/CAPEX projects.
  • Continuous improvement techniques.
  • Ability to develop RA/SWP’s and manage system.
  • Proven skills discipline knowledge is demonstrated
