Great Walstead School is a delightful independent standalone prep school for boys and girls aged 2 ½ to 13 set in 260 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside. We have a proud record of feeding many of the top day and boarding schools in the South East, with a large proportion of leaving students achieving scholarships and awards.

The Role:

This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of our excellent team who are very supportive and friendly and always have the children’s happiness at the heart of everything they do. Set in a beautiful rural location our stimulating classrooms and large outdoor learning space provide an exciting environment where children can achieve their full potential. The children spend lots of time, exploring our extensive grounds which include, woods, fields, streams and our secret garden to enhance learning and create a unique child led curriculum.

We have shifts available from 3.30 pm – 6.00 pm Monday – Friday, Term Time plus 2 weeks (36 weeks). Extra hours and Bank positions are also possible.

Salary is competitive and according to qualifications and experience

There is an extensive benefit package including a generous pension contribution, use of the extensive grounds out of working hours, death in service benefit and an employee assistance programme.

Duties will include:

  • Care of children after school day, organising and supervising activities
  • Help with homework and reading
  • Facilitate tea time
  • Taking and collecting children from in school clubs

The successful applicant should have:

  • Experience of working with children in the 2.5 to 7 years age group
  • NVQ Level 3 in Child Care, or equivalent qualification is desirable
  • Paediatric first aid qualification or a willingness to train
  • Sensitivity and caring to the needs of young children
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong team player

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all of their staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure via the DBS and to register with the update service.
