Job Title: Press and Communications Officer – National Gambling Helpline

Location: Office-based with flexible working options (requirement to travel to our Head Office in Farringdon twice a week)

Salary: £33,497 or £36,444 for those living in London and surrounding counties

Job Type: Permanent – Full time, 35 hours

Job Introduction

This is an exciting time to join GamCare as we’re recruiting a Press and Communications Officer to play a supportive role in GamCare’s external communications, helping raise awareness of the National Gambling Helpline and its range of digital tools that people can use for support with their gambling.

The role will include creating targeted communication plans with support from the wider team that raise awareness of the free support that is available for anyone experiencing gambling-related harm.

The position will be a key member of our ever-expanding communications team, ensuring that media and campaign plans are shared across digital, public affairs, internal and corporate communications colleagues, maximising our reach through a fully integrated approach.

Main Responsibilities

  • With the support of a manager, lead on proactive and reactive media enquiries, liaise with journalists, draft/ sell in press releases, and respond to media enquiries.
  • Support with the creation and execution of targeted awareness campaigns for a national audience, via both paid and earned media. Raise awareness of GamCare, the National Gambling Helpline and our suite of digital support services including live chat, the MyGamCare portal, Whatsapp and Facebook.
  • Work with GamCare’s lived experience team and partners in the network to bring new stories into our communications work from across Great Britain. Research stories, provide quotes and manage photography requirements.
  • Support colleagues with key messages and briefing spokespeople from across GamCare for media appearances, including national, broadcast and trade media opportunities.
  • Work closely with colleagues on the National Gambling Helpline to gather insights and keep colleagues informed of latest trends from our frontline services.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis of communications for all GamCare and National Gambling Helpline campaigns.

The Ideal Candidate

As the successful candidate you’ll bring your experience of writing and creating audience focussed, engaging content across a range of platforms. You’ll have demonstrable experience of working in a press-office function, either in-house or agency, and achieving high-profile media coverage.

You will have excellent written skills, a strong eye for a news story, and an understanding of how an organisation like GamCare can increase its presence in the media. You will also bring excellent stakeholder management skills, the ability to engage others and build strong working relationships.
