It is the Council’s commitment to break down the barriers that stifle your thinking and limit your growth. We are working to become a forward-thinking Council full of curious people ready to collaborate, innovate and talk about ideas.

Our objective to be an organisation that stands for equality, stands up against discrimination and upholds our values of integrity, creativity, ambition and respect. You will join colleagues who have pledged to do their best every day for the borough and its residents.

About the role:

As a major land owner in the borough, we are in a unique position to shape the future of our communities through the effective use of our assets. You will be at the centre of developing and implementing a range of asset management initiatives key to the delivery of the Council’s transformation program such as an ambitious disposal program. You will support the implementation of the mission of our asset management strategy to deliver better use of our assets by optimising use of Council assets to improve the customer experience of our residents and businesses, increasing income and reducing costs.

At a headline level your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing senior property advice to Council Members, the Senior Leadership Team and to Council Services to include corporate asset management, estate management and valuation services, together with supervisory and other associated functions and duties from time to time on property matters.
  • Undertaking property review and implementation processes, being responsible for identifying and securing a flow of major capital receipts or revenue streams in line with targets to fund the Council’s capital programme needs, dealing and liaising as necessary with the Cabinet, lead and other members, Executive Directors, Service Departments and community and user interests
  • Delivering and implementing asset management policies throughout the Council including management plan submissions, the reporting of asset management planning and corporate strategy to Council Members and the management collection and analysis of all data to support this function
  • Disposal and acquisition of property and supporting wholly owned Company arrangements.
  • Deputising for the Strategic Asset Manager as required

About you:

What you’ll bring to the table is extensive experience across property, valuations, surveying and project management, ideally within a local authority setting or private practice advising public sector clients. You’ll be equally confident providing high level advice to senior leaders or managing complex projects to demanding timescales. You’ll be a natural communicator and collaborator, able to get the right people on side and make difficult issues easy to understand. You will be RICS qualified and what you’ll bring to the table is the ability to turn strategies into solid plans, get others on board and make our efforts a success.

Innovation will come as second nature and form a huge part of your thinking when it comes to improving our services. We need people who are always asking ‘how will this benefit our customers?’ and have the communication and team-building skills to inspire others and bring plans to life. As you push our standards higher and higher, you’ll also instil integrity and true diversity across our teams, respecting others and expecting the same in return.
