The Role:

City of Lincoln Council have an in-house Internal Audit Team working in partnership with the Lincolnshire County Council Assurance Lincolnshire Team. We are looking to recruit an experienced Principal Auditor to join our small team.

The position is currently permanent working 37 hours a week Mon – Fri, however, we will consider applications for a job share arrangement or working fewer hours. There is flexibility on how these hours are worked throughout the week. We operate a hybrid approach to working, working remotely at home and within City Hall. There may also be opportunities to work with other local clients either on site or remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

The position involves managing the day to day work of the Internal Auditor and others including support, performance management, review and quality control. It also involves deputising for the Audit Manager when required and supporting the Audit Manager to prepare the audit plan, resource plan and performance reports for the Audit Committee.

You will also be required to undertake a range of audits throughout the Council including scoping, designing audit programmes, testing, reporting and discussing the findings of the review with auditees including senior management. Some of these audits may be complex or technical such as ICT audits and corporate project audits. Therefore, a good awareness of the internal audit methodologies and standards is necessary as is the ability to communicate effectively and use Information Technology software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

The post holder will also undertake work related to Value for Money, National Fraud Initiative, counter fraud, fraud investigation and whistleblowing.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have experience in working in Internal Audit in a local government environment although candidates with audit or similar experience within a different field are also encouraged to apply.
