DB Cargo UK is the UK’s largest rail freight company. We provide freight, infrastructure and passenger charter trains throughout the UK, and freight services to and from mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. We also provide traction and train crew for scheduled passenger operators.

The role:

We are looking for a Procurement Manager to join our Procurement department here at DB Cargo UK, based at our Toton Premises. The role will support the Head of Procurement with the responsibly for the realisation of cost targets against different allocated categories of supply, all whilst achieving delivery and quality commitments.

The role offers a hybrid and flexible working basis from personal residence and our Toton site. There will be a requirement to be in the office 2/3 days a week, but this is flexible to suit both the business needs and the successful candidate.

What will you be doing?

Here are some of the responsibilities that the successful candidate will have on a day-to-day basis:

  • Take ownership of allocated categories, lead and negotiate contractual terms and conditions with suppliers.Ensuring processes are embedded with the suppliers and rolled out with key stakeholders.
  • Lead contract review meetings with suppliers including performance reviews.
  • Launch price enquiries with suppliers and evaluate/negotiate offers.
  • Work with suppliers to drive cost, quality and delivery performance improvements.
  • Review meetings with key stakeholders for designated range of items and provide regular updates.
  • Manage two Operational members of team, coach/train/support/develop to deliver operational KPI’s including Ordering/Order book/MRP.
  • Work in partnership with the DBS Parts Centre to ensure supply chain optimisation and customer delivery.
  • Provide KPI reports as required to demonstrate performance against targets.
  • Work with Procurement team to develop.

What are we looking for?

  • We are looking for a candidate who has Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualifications or working towards.
  • We are looking for a candidate who has experience working in a multi-site environment or experience in the rail industry.
  • A candidate with good organisational skills and who are self-motivated able manage their own workload with a holistic view and able to complete projects from start to finish ensuring a high quality throughout. Written communication skills are also essential for this position.
  • A candidate who is able to problem solve and communicate with other departments easily and have the ability to establish a rapport with all levels of management and safety representatives will be a key requisite in being a successful post holder.
  • Due to the amount of travel the position requires, a full and clean driving licence is essential.
