Job Title: Production Manager – Packing / Raw Processing

Location: Blackburn

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 per annum dependent on experience

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Company is a leading pet food manufacturer whose industry knowledge spans over 135 years.

The Company has a portfolio of brands offers a variety of products for pets and wild animals under its brands. Each brand offers a unique insight into animals from dogs to ducks and produces high-quality products that cater to a wide variety of consumer needs.

As a trusted partner, the Company provide private label goods including extruded food, wet food and retorted trays, and baked fresh meat treats. The business also offers additional services such as packaging design, fulfilment and logistics.

The company is now looking to further strengthen their operational management team with the appointment of a Production Manager. The Production Manager will report to the Factory Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the day to day operations to ensure optimum product quality is produced to the correct specification and in line with production costs
  • Set and Implement standards, procedures to ensure high quality products are produced
  • Effectively manage all working processes to meet BRC and other external and internal audit criteria, including CCP’s, GMP, complaints, non-conformances and audit readiness
  • To deliver operational strategy by motivating and giving clear direction to the team developing and maintaining quality-based production, whilst monitoring individual, team and machine Performance
  • Conduct regular GMP and Health and Safety audits reinforcing positive behaviour and dealing with non-compliance
  • Involved with material planning, availability and yield KPI’s vs standards & operational budgets
  • Ensure all manning is planned in line with cost’s and adequate labour is available to deliver production plans through holiday/absent management
  • Lead production objectives and implement action plans to achieve set target’s
  • Analysis of current processes and procedures with a view to identifying bottlenecks and putting corrective actions in place
  • Root cause analysis by driving SIC controls with clear timebound action plans
  • Gather and present data using a range of I.T platforms and software systems
  • Work collaboratively and engage with support functions/key stakeholders to achieve business objectives
  • Ensure all stock and inventory levels are correct and utilised as per specification
  • To deliver continuous Improvement action plans through the team
  • Absence and conduct management
  • To chair daily performance review meeting in the absence of Factory Manager
  • Control the flow of work to meet customer deadlines; check and manage the product specification, making adjustments and keeping the factory manager informed, over-seeing the work of the staff, taking responsibility for the finished product by monitoring and maintaining quality
  • To engage with the team’s offering support and guidance and in doing so provide continual staff training and development plans. Creating a self-motivated engaged team with succession plans in place
  • To deputise for the factory manager when required
  • Provide manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analysing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures
  • To immediately report to the Factory manager any delays effecting production and Safety

Skills and Experiences:

Essential

  • Strong leadership including implementation of day to day HR processes and coaching, mentoring & people development skills (cross training individuals & teams)
  • Strong communicator at all levels with the ability to mentor, coach & develop others
  • Able to drive efficiencies whilst maintaining product quality & keeping costs down
  • PC Literate (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Proven ability to implement and drive change
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills and ability to investigate anomalies
  • A problem solver with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • A dynamic self-starter with a positive, enthusiastic can-do attitude.
  • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing (preferably FMCG based)

Desirable

  • 3 years’ experience leading a team of circa 20 people or more
  • Understanding of basic lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience of BRC standards
  • IOSH managing safety qualification
  • Food Hygiene/ Safety qualification
